than any thoroughfare of similar length in the city. Rather than an area where copper workers lived it was said to be a corruption of the old name of Coupergate, derived from the Latin word "caupa" a huckster & was the street where coupers, coupmen & copemen assembled to sell their wares. /3

The Leeds Mercury from 24th April 1939 talked about plans agreed to preserve the antique features of the pub. At one time Coppergate had more old buildings /2
