The way she looks at me is unnerving. I’m not, really, threatened by her. I have nothing to fear; there is no way she could harm me in a way that matters. Yet the cold blue of her gaze rarely settles on any one part of me for long. It is as though she is trying to decide how to butcher me; where the weak points are that she might insert a knife into the softer meat and carve it away easily from the rest. It is a far more literal hunger than I am used to.

It was infuriating how much Brianna's past felt like it was being rewritten and how impossible it was to confront her mother about what she was doing.l Esther continually deadnamed Brianna during the call and honestly if you didn't already know what happened, you would have assumed suicide. There was no focus on external dangers or how we could combat them. The focus was purely about the dangers of how 'obsessed with social media' she was.

POV: Trione Greetings. My name is Trione. I am a specialist working in Initialisation for The Tendency. In most circumstances I would presume that this terminology is already known to you, however given the circumstances around the contents of this record I will provide a brief overview of what that means. The Tendency are an agglomeration of various species which posit that there is a tendency of successful civilisations towards cooperation with their neighbours, individual freedom and the eradication of scarcity which might otherwise hinder the development of persons within those civilisations. Having noticed this, they have agreed to foster these qualities, pool resources and - as much as is feasible - remove barriers which might prevent civilisations from following that path of development. The intent in doing so is to avoid the well-documented end path that more hierarchical structures inevitably devolve into: the deaths of billions of sapient beings, both of the original civilisation and any galactic neighbours which have the misfortune to be in the surrounding space should they manage to get off planet before boiling themselves alive or meeting some similar tragic ending. Initialisation is the group of individuals within The Tendency who are trusted to initiate contact with newly discovered civilisations and, hopefully, guide them towards the correct tendency. Or at least start them down that path. Whilst hierarchy is strongly discouraged within our group, there is an acknowledgement that certain jobs are delicate enough that a level of training and aptitude is required before one may take them on. You don’t want to trust everyone to perform maintenance on a fission reactor, do you? Things would get messy. I am a specialist in machine intelligence. There are numerous different pathways by which computational systems may reach sapience. I have spent centuries studying them, and share my headspace with two examples of competing logic systems: Uni, and Null. You will get to know them over the course of this record. There is a great deal of debate about the most efficient way to impart information about complex event-chains. I am not a specialist in record-keeping or information science I am afraid. I am, however, a believer in narratives. Everything we encounter is information; it is only through putting this information in a coherent framework that we are able to come to an understanding of its meaning. Therefore I have, with the permission of all parties, structured this record as such a narrative. My reasons for doing so will become clear as we continue. Thank you.
