I have a Phd and my last name is unpronounceable. I also write, create TTRPGs, garden, do SEO, and occasionally use a canoe. Check out:

Interesting facts.

So I've started to get a weekly trickle of downloads for Koriolan from DriveThruRPG, while Itch.io which also hadn't moved in a while is once again on fire!

Guess it's the holiday season shoppers looking for some free TTRPG or scenario to play over the break? Here's hoping.

So I've got some leftovers from the big box of Heist author copies.

Sure looks like I've got backup, some last minute "oops I forgot you" Christmas presents at the ready ready.

Also to a 5-year old, superhero costumes, as well as wrestling outfits, are indistinguishable from underwear.

Fair.

Another wonderful question from my daughter while reading comic books for bedtime:

"If the X-Men are always in their underwear, don't they ever get cold?"

Does anyone else find it crazy that the only A/B tests really worth doing in Google Ads are buried way under the "Custom" button while absolute crap like PMax URL expansion and AI Max are shoved front and center?

Actually, no, I'm not. It's Google being Google.

November 15th?

Yessir, Heist is back in print today!

Gritty cyberpunk crime thriller set in a dystopian near future.

An impossible heist. Uncertain loyalties. The whole thing led by a man on the run and in need of revenge.

What could possibly go wrong?

Not quite the first image that comes to mind when I think of mid-November, but the image I see nonetheless when I look at my driveway.

Well hello, hello.

Enjoy gritty cyberpunk?

Action-packed dystopian thrillers?

Love anti-heroes?

My cyberpunk crime thriller novella Heist from 2020 is soon to be back in print!

It's now under a new pseudonym (to separate it from my other very different work).

It's interesting how every time that I have free time (which is rare) my thoughts keep going back to working on another TTRPG.

Let's see if this autumn allows anything to stick.

Just taking a look inside this lovely delivery from McGill-Queen's University Press.

What have we here?

Prime-Time Bishop: Fulton J. Sheen and Religious Celebrity in America is available!

It was something like 10 years ago now when I taught my first course at Concordia University.

Holding that course pack for RELI 210 fresh off the press was really something.

Teaching didn't pan out after earning my PhD (job market for academics is bad, bad, bad).

But one can dream.

I routinely get interesting questions thrown my way about Marvel comics and life in general thanks to my daughter.

Her: "Is the Hulk always angry?"
Me: "Yup."
Her: "Why?"
Me: "Bad guys make him angry."
Her: "Why?"
Me: "Because they're bad."
Her: "They should stop being bad."

Yes, they should.

What does an Emmy Award Winning middle-aged Catholic priest tell us about media, celebrity, and masculinity in America?

Quite a lot, actually, as I argue in Prime Time Bishop, my academic monograph that just got released through McGill-Queen's University Press!

Gotta love how ordering food in India puts everything to shame back home.

I picked up 15 dumplings and a full serving of hakka noodles (Indo-Chinese chow mein).

After tip, tax, delivery fee, it was about the equivalent of $5.

And it took about 18 minutes to arrive.

Ever notice how when you're travelling you get hit with everything all at once?

Jet lag. Nasty virus. Both kids sick. Issues with 2FA.

And that's just the first week overseas.

How often does your marketing agency highlight all the impressions they generated for you each month?

It's probably more often than they should.

How often do they follow up by total clicks and then stop the report right there?

Ouch.
June 9, 2025 at 4:35 PM
A marketing client heavily invested in a local media agency (before I had any say in the matter, trust me).

They promised BIG RESULTS.

I asked the media agency to send us a performance report after the campaign.

If you guessed it was entirely about how many "impressions" they earned - winner!

My daughter and I were recently reading some old school X-Men comics.

Her: "Why does Magneto always capture Professor X?"
Me: "Why do you think he does?"
Her: "Maybe are they in love?"

Yes. Yes they are.
