LA! I’ll be speaking at IKAR during Shabbat services tomorrow morning, in conversation with the great Rabbi Sharon Brous about antisemitism and democracy. You can join in person or watch online. ikar.org/events/count...

A funny thing happened today:

Rep. Walberg, Chair of the House Education & Labor Committee, claimed @rweingarten.bsky.social has “not said anything” on antisemitism — while Randi & I were quite literally leading a program on countering antisemitism for @aft.org members, part of a series.

Last week, I spoke at a House Homeland Security Committee roundtable on antisemitism, urging members to push DHS to release the notice of funding opportunities for the vital Nonprofit Security Grant Program -- which was two months overdue.

Today, DHS finally heeded our communities’ calls.

My new op-ed with @aft.org President @rweingarten.bsky.social: With antisemitism rising and public education & democracy under attack — and extremists pitting us against one another — educators and the Jewish community must closely partner. www.newsweek.com/fight-antise...

Mamdani has engaged thoughtfully with many of us in recent weeks and, as a result, said today he understands how harmfully Jews hear rhetoric like "globalize the intifada” & discouraged its use. There's much work ahead but these comments matter. www.nytimes.com/2025/07/15/b... @emmagf.bsky.social

Happy 60th to my brilliant friend @bulldogshadow.bsky.social, who models what it means to lead with courage and clarity every single day.

Case in point.

On the second, extremists are now working overtime to exploit the mayoral race to fuel hate — including against Muslim, Arab, immigrant, and other communities (which of course also connects with and fuels antisemitism - eg the Great Replacement).

I’ve known @bradlander.bsky.social for years - & even if I haven’t I’d still be horrified by his arrest by masked ICE agents.

This is who Brad is: showing up for New Yorkers in immigration court, or co-hosting a dinner with me to support our local Israeli American restaurant when it was vandalized

In case it’s still not clear, throwing a brick painted with “Free Palestine” through the window of a kosher grocery store is antisemitism.

Particularly heartbroken that The Butcherie - which catered so many of my Hillel events as a Tufts student - was targeted.

Fighting antisemitism means fighting it wherever it exists. On the left and on the right. When it uses Israel as a guise and when it is white supremacy.

If this administration were serious about countering antisemitism, it wouldn’t appoint antisemites or normalize antisemitic conspiracy theories.

If this administration were serious about countering antisemitism on campus, it wouldn’t be gutting the very tools we have to do so.

Grateful to the Broward Jewish Federation for hosting me to speak about antisemitism and coalition-building at a packed lunch event yesterday. Particularly appreciate the assistant state attorneys who lead Broward & Palm Beach Counties hate crimes units joining us at this urgent moment.

May #PopeFrancis’ memory — and his legacy of compassion and bridge-building — be for a blessing. Sending deep condolences to our Catholic friends.

I joined @msnbc.com to talk about the horrifying attack on Governor Shapiro and his family, the fear it exacerbates in the Jewish community even if we don’t yet fully know the motive, and the importance of unequivocally condemning political violence & extremism

Jewish students, faculty, and staff at the universities targeted by the Trump admin are speaking out against the arrests/deportations and funding cuts — because it’s clear this is not about addressing real concerns about antisemitism but, rather, exploiting them to undermine rights and democracy.

One of the best parts of our work at @thejcpa.bsky.social is partnering with local JCRCS, federations, & other communal groups.

Particularly grateful for the leadership of the Boston JCRC and Ann Arbor Federation in standing for democracy & civil liberties.

Amb. Alan Solomont was my professor and mentor when I was a student at Tufts. Nearly two decades later, we are somehow here.

Grateful for his powerful oped in today’s @bostonglobe.com: “Silence is not an option. Our democracy depends on it. Our history and tradition require it as well.”

If the Trump administration were serious about countering antisemitism, there’s a litany of things they could do. But, instead, we’re seeing them exploit our community’s real concerns to undercut our institutions and democracy. And it makes Jews - and all of us - less safe.

Nazis and disinformation are generally ok, but a post about my event this week with @rweingarten.bsky.social is somehow “misleading” so Facebook/Meta deleted it.

Some headlines from this morning alone.

When the history books (in other countries, of course) document the collapse of American democracy, this will be the moment to which they point. And students will ask why our political leaders could not figure out how to effectively push back.

Lots of horrifying news this week, but here’s one place I’m finding hope: I just spent two packed days in Michigan with hundreds of students, faculty, and community members committed to constructively fighting antisemitism & broader hate and protecting democracy.
