Some of my student’s portraits for the practical aspect of this task. Their goal to represent people of impact or importance in their lives experimenting with Namatjira’s distinct style. They each made a series of 5 portraits. Quite a challenge for Yr 7’s #teachingart

I love #teachingart and will miss it when I retire at the end of this year. Working with young people is so rewarding. They truely inspire me.

Vincent Namatjira does the same. He’s painted people of impact including politicians whose decisions via policy have changed the course of his life and his connection to his culture.

These students compiled a list of people of impact or influence & then created their own series of portraits in the style of Namatjira’s distinctive portraiture. They chose loved ones, people they admire, friends.

An opinion expressed b/c there is distortion & students at this age like to aim for realism, even if it is something unachievable in their own portraits.
