I find this conversation in #GIS quite often and in almost all cases, folks prefer Python. It's quite easy to grasp for young learners & abstracts a lot of the complexity. R is the Swiss army knife in this comparison.
But hey, juggling between R, Python & QGIS is an amazing skill to have. Do it.
