رأينا قبل أسابيع قليلة كيف خرج المعتقلون من سجون الأسد بعد رحيله. وأي إنسان سويّ لا يبكي فرحة لرفع الظلم، وحرية الناس وكرامتهم. بالعدل والرحمة واحترام حقوق الإنسان وحدهم يمكن لمصر أن تجد طرقاً شتى لمستقبل أفضل، والظُلم يُغلق كل طريق. ولنكن متسقين في رفض الظلم في كل مكان. وليس فقط حين يقع علينا.

I & Yasmine Ahmed, @hrw.org's London director, met today with Laila Soueif; a brave mother going through an open hunger strike while she's 68 to get her son, Alaa Abd el-Fattah, freed from prison in #Egypt. Standing by the UK government's Downing Street office. Here are some brief thoughts:

Freedom of belief in Egypt is undermined, incomplete, as long as members of any belief or religion are still oppressed and discriminated against.

while Egypt's constitution says gov't should spend 4% GDP on pre-university education (international benchmark is 4 to 6 GDP and 15-20% total gov't expenditure) this is what Egypt's gov't spend. It's unfathomable to hear any rhetoric that the gov't cares about social rights.
