Twirling, twirling towards freedom
Canada being the one Anglo country without agepol you guys actually have Tories under 30 right? Is this keeping your Tories more normal?
November 12, 2025 at 10:35 PM
*seen NOTHING suggesting he didn’t
November 12, 2025 at 7:37 PM
Tbh my preferences go in order Sadiq Khan, Mark Drakeford, Angela Rayner, Ed Miliband and at the current moment he’s last man standing with a seat and no scandal
November 12, 2025 at 7:35 PM
Experience? Ed
Familiar face for reassurance? Ed

And Ed’s good at his job
November 12, 2025 at 7:30 PM
I frankly don’t see what he offers the cabinet table that Chancellor Miliband doesn’t at this point, unless he has particular passion projects at MoJ which he doesn’t appear to?
November 12, 2025 at 7:29 PM
Or AG or justice sec as a technocrat in the Lords which Brown and Miliband both offered and he should have taken
November 12, 2025 at 7:22 PM
Because he thinks he did a good job as DPP (and tbf I have seen suggesting he didn’t) and wants to step up. Which is fine, but in that case the job you actually want is Cabinet Secretary.
November 12, 2025 at 7:21 PM
I mean I’d argue not immediately putting Whitlam back after the house voted confidence in him was at the very edge, and probably over, constitutional
November 12, 2025 at 6:25 PM
The Australian constitution is absolutely bizarre and really shouldn’t work yet somehow works incredibly well, except that time they had a coup in 1975 and everyone was bizarrely, relatively chill about it
November 12, 2025 at 6:22 PM
Tbf not that I’ve actually read his book but the guy did basically write a manifesto
November 12, 2025 at 5:39 PM
Tbh the US presidency (if you weakened the veto a bit, possibly just make the chambers pass something again but by simple majority) is a pretty reasonable Ireland or Portugal style mostly-symbolic president. They just forgot to have a Prime Minister as well.
November 12, 2025 at 5:20 PM
It’s based on the premise that legislators will be more loyal to the legislature qua the legislature than whoever runs the executive, an assumption that literally only makes sense if the executive is a king and not part of the political/electoral/party system
November 12, 2025 at 5:10 PM
Albo remains an exceptionally funny figure, imagine if in 2015 John Prescott became Labour leader and turned out to be much more popular and effective than Blair *or* Brown
November 12, 2025 at 2:43 PM
So I’m not sure what conclusion to draw lol
November 12, 2025 at 2:36 PM
Globally the most successful western centre left pols are Pedro Sánchez (accelerated to the top, albeit had been a spad) and Anthony Albanese (MP before I was born and previously DPM) and also one’s a leftist firebrand and the other a centrist and it’s not who you’d expect when they became leader
November 12, 2025 at 2:35 PM
I swear it’s even funnier than that and Jarvis admitted she’s a composite character, his wife just happens to fit the definition *precisely*?
November 12, 2025 at 12:16 PM
Have you read James Schneider’s piece asserting that outside the west everyone loves political party branch meetings which are drunken affairs full of dancing, and he hopes YP will be received like the streets’ debut single?
November 12, 2025 at 12:10 PM
At least in my experience and at least in Cardiff flats look A LOT cheaper than they are because the service charge is 50% of your mortgage
November 12, 2025 at 11:58 AM
Brown got one of his mentees in and beat one of Blair’s in the process?
November 12, 2025 at 12:07 AM
As with so many things in Westminster politics the correct approach is Australia (anyone can challenge in any weekly MPs’ meeting but if you do we’re voting here and now and it’ll be resolved one way or another in an hour)
November 11, 2025 at 11:55 PM
(Guy in the meeting suggests just retconning him into a Bosnia or Kosovo survivor instead, is immediately thrown out of window)
November 11, 2025 at 6:56 PM
(While definitely true, it does seem… odd that the government choosing not to make a new spending commitment is even theoretically JRable even if the reasoning was explicitly that McFadden had consulted a psychic. I’m sure it is JRable it just shouldn’t be)
November 11, 2025 at 6:40 PM
I have no idea whether it’s possible within the rules of the greens; given everything I know about her politics I feel confident saying she should want to and it’s her obvious path to national prominence, not whatever this is
November 11, 2025 at 5:11 PM
You’d ideally do this a year ago and run *instead of* Polanski ofc
November 11, 2025 at 5:07 PM
I guess it depends if the Greens would/could have kept her out if she’d offered to defect and blatantly planned to run for leader at the first opportunity
