Local man.
Picked up Victoria 3 over the weekend and I can confidently say I now know what it feels like to be one of the DOGE kids.

Someday they may take me physically away from this place. They may enshrine lies into the law. They may even shed my life's blood. But I will always be an American.

As someone who doesn't care about New York or Eric Adams, it feels like I shouldn't be here today.

Just fact checking for fact checking's sake. Nevermind that the statement is factually correct as the fact check goes on to explain?

it’s good and healthy to have open and honest discussions with people who have similar values but come out differently on specific issues. don’t be scared of it.

If gen Z really cared about the environment they wouldn't wear such baggy pants!

Reams and reams of extra material.

They should wear ill-fitting skinny jeans like their millennial progenitors!

Being a vaguely conflict-averse American makes me by far the most conflict oriented person in Denmark.

Why done Danes hate trees so much?

I thought this site would have more @mattyglesias.bsky.social types who have a lot of takes, both good and bad, but at least engage in ideas even if that comes off as trolly from time to time.

Still a lot of scolds and bandwagoners. Maybe I just internet wrong.

As Zelensky visits DC, my first post for @goodauth.bsky.social is a deep dive into foreign policy and the 2024 election. Featuring a ton of new polisky research since I last looked at this in 2016, and the super dead King Louis’ head from Hamilton.

A big Danish coffee chain lets people order on their phones and pickup in-store. As a social truther, I find the people who sit in shop, order on their phones, then grab their sit-down coffee without engaging with the person who has made their drink pretty detestable. At least thank your barista!

I don't know what led me to reading the comments on WaPo articles but I wish I could stop myself.

I'm not sure how google uses their algorithms to pump content. But I appreciate that they regularly give me recipes for "no-bake, 3 ingredient cakes" even though I've never searched for or made such a cake.

A feeling that I think explains a lot of online discourse: most people just don't care about liberal values as much as you do.

In fact, they probably don't even think about them very much.

This piece in the Atlantic today is an example of what I've been worried about for awhile now: liberalism's complacency in the face of competitive ideologies.

Modern politics has been so subsumed by liberalism that we forgot that it too was an ideology that needs renewal, defending, and debate.
