I'm a blue dot in a blood-red town in West Texas. When I'm not writing a story or obsessing over politics, I'm likely cooking or baking something. The cat/human ratio is 3/1 in my house. I don't post often and freely block annoying people. INFJ. She/Her.

As the Semiquincentennial draws nearer, I find myself reminiscing more and more about the Bicentennial.

Today, I'm remembering when I went with my family to see the American Freedom Train.

How do we convince Greg Abbott and Ken Paxton that they should follow suit so I can watch the three of them rip each other to shreds? 🍿
There are no small government traditional conservatives left in the Republican Party, so this seems like a huge waste of time. But huge wastes of time are Ted’s specialty.

The second paragraph of the article below links to the new map they want to inflict upon us. 🙄

All this slicing and dicing reminds me of that old Ginsu knife commercial where they hack up a beer can before slicing a tomato.

I first got this pro-MAGA ad for John Cornyn on Saturday, 7/26, while playing a game on my tablet. Now, it's showing up on my laptop when I watch YouTube videos.

I'm not looking forward to the far-right hissy fits that will occur during the primary fight over Cornyn's seat. 🙄

So, Abbott wants to redraw Texas's U.S. congressional districts. There is a nearby district that is more competitive than mine, so I'm now wondering if my county will be moved to that district in an attempt to redden it.

From what I've read, their tinkering efforts could backfire on them. 🤞

In 1976, my mother impressed upon me how fortunate I was to be old enough to remember the American Bicentennial and, hopefully, still be around for the 250th.

As 2026 approaches, I vacillate between grief that she's gone and relief that she's not having to live through these "interesting" times.

There's a pocket universe where vaccinations are not controversial, no nations are at war, the markets aren't crashing, and our President is delightfully sane.

Also, there's no avian flu, so I'm enjoying a slice of homemade cheddar and broccoli quiche for lunch.

*Reads that Trump has skipped town to play golf after shitting the nation's economic bed*

For the sake of my mental health, I will now return to a fictional world with a 1400-year-old family curse that randomly kills.

While demonstrably evil, said curse doesn't have a fan club cheering it on...

I'm honestly surprised none of the Fox clowns made a sneering comment about due process being "woke."
And here we go -- Fox News is now saying we should get rid of "due process" because it's too cumbersome.

Brian Kilmeade: "But I also think it's not practical to think that we can do due process on 8 million people."

I'm watching the Texas House elect a speaker.

The cast of characters:

GOP Representative Dustin Burrows

GOP Representative David Cook

DNC Representative Ana-Maria Rodriguez Ramos

The GOP controls the House, so one of the men will win.

I assumed the vote for House Speaker would be rather lengthy, so I compiled a list of tasks I could complete while watching C-SPAN.

I just finished putting chew-proof cord protectors on all the electrical cords in the living room. 😀

Lunch break, and then a dive into my unfinished sewing projects.

My area will have its first freeze of the season early Friday morning. As the clock ticks closer to midnight, the cats will start fighting over who gets to sleep on the warmest human in my household.

I'll end up with at least one cat because

Thanksgiving prep is underway!

So far, I've got a pumpkin pie, a big bowl of crumbled-up cornbread for the dressing, and a shrinking pile of yeast rolls.

"If you eat all the rolls before Thanksgiving, I'm not making another batch."

"Ooh! Pie!"

"How about a baked potato?"

"Pie? Please?"

I was going through the pictures on my phone and stumbled upon the one I took of my "I voted today!" sticker.

*exhales slowly*

It turns out I'm not through crying about the election yet.

I tried out a new dessert recipe to distract myself from politics. It was a bar version of apple pie, but when I went to cut them, they fell apart.

*sad trombone*

Tried it warm w/ a splash of cream. 😀

The internet says the non-apple part is a crumble/crisp hybrid. Apple Crusp? Apple Crimble?

I'd forgotten how nice it is to click to read the replies and not have to wade through raw sewage to find responses from sane people.

I opened the calendar on my laptop to start planning my Thanksgiving cooking schedule and was stunned to realize that it's been less than two weeks since the election.

My time perception is seriously messed up right now. It feels like at least a decade has passed.
