a pragmatic approach would be european countries making a deal so that these can be independently supported to avoid vendor lock-in. most of the f-35 supply chain is outside US and it is more eurofighter than the eurofighter itself.

ditching it would be a knee jerk move that benefits nobody

when we considered the gripen back then, it was pointed out that the costs in the sales pitch were not in-service or contractor figures. its a random figure off janes

we dont doubt that a single f404 is easy to run, but it's a giant red flag, and the figure is unrealistic. many overlooked this
It's not the purchase cost, it's the maintainance and operation costs that are significant. F-35, Gripen, and Rafale cost roughly the same 80-100 million.

But, compare annual maintenance and operation costs:

F-35: 6-8 million per plane
Rafale: 5-6 milion per plane
Gripen: 1 million per plane
