Thin people should pay less to fly on aeroplanes. They are helping the environment.

I could not understand why so many people on here hated Matt Walsh. Then today I saw "What is a Woman?" & I realized why. He talks about the reality of objective truth and pragmatic consequences of trans ideology. It features someone who has been harmed by trans surgery. These are unpalatable truths

Its mostly implemented and we’ve been testing it in a sandbox environment. Some work still to go there but the main bottleneck to shipping it is feeling comfortable with the moderation tools people will have to moderate their own experience

I am skeptical about all 'gender affirmative surgery'. One of the things I find most concerning is that unlike almost any other area of surgical intervention, you meet huge resistance when trying to discuss risk factors & complications. I think these surgeries are going to be a great medical scandal

Hi @jay.bsky.team,

It is frankly an insult to the memory of those who suffered the horrors of the Holocaust that people on tjis app feel free to call anyone and everyone Nazis for no more than having a different point of view. It is getting demeaning to the point of being blatant antisemitism.

I can't really imagine coming on a beta service site that I'm not paying for and trying to push around the people running it but apparently that is not at all an issue for a lot of people

If a society tolerates the intolerance of intolerance, the intolerant will weaponize claims of intolerance so that their victims will not be tolerated. This is known as the paradox of intolerance

Could it be that at the root of many concerns about "safe spaces" is a group of people who want a walled garden where they can rattle off self-serving polemic without anybody challenging or debating them? It does seem there is a fear about getting found out when someone tries to debate them.

the people who will ultimately do the most harm seem to be easy to detect. They support bullying, blocking, and de-personing based on viewpoint and accusations of mere presence of those they disapprove of being having a presence.

That's right, but I sometimes feel that things done with the goal of creating safety for the marginalized, earnest, justified things, simply don't work to accomplish that. "I bring not peace but a sword" is good and just but it's not peace and it's not safety.

I get that, but "protect the lives of black people" isn't something a conversation on this website can deliver. Interpersonal connection and discussion is the terrain here, and I do think that matters.

I think it would be good if this were not the case, and I think it's in principle possible to have "socialist public reason" or "antiracist public reason" but most attempts at this fail to make pleasant, functional communities.

You can't do "public reason but with exceptions for special things" because then everything becomes about gatekeeping those exceptions. The whole community warps into the shape of the loophole.

I continue to think that there is liberal public reason and there is chaos and interpersonal conflict, and those are really the only two ways communities can go in the long term.

Did Phillip Schofield take advantage of a starstruck teenager who wanted to get on on the television industry? Maybe, but we legalised that when we dropped the age of consent to 16. That's the cost of legislative change. Schofield had no reason to think he was breaking any law. He must be left alone

I think it is a sign of the great generosity of Bluesky users that even though Elon Musk is a billionaire, you all still let him live rent-free in your head.

I think I am going to have to go to Twitter for a bit, just to see a bit less of Elon Musk than I am on here.

The smut filter on Bluesky does not work properly and/or well enough.

Apparently just before he blocked me, Chad Loder made some comment showing he was aware of my previous posts where I mentioned an unprovoked attack by Antifa members on people in a pub. He seems to have suggested I made it up. It seems I have started a ripple of anxiety through Bluesky...

Hi @jay.bsky.team. Yesterday I made some posts where I expressed my opinion that violence is unacceptable in the context of political or social discourse. I have noticed that one of my posts in response to a hot post defaming me has disappeared, and that I appear to be shadowbanned...

That was something that had occurred to me. These articles just randomly grab vaguely convincing nonsense, and sooner or later it's going to be dangerous for actual humans. I wonder if "we don't read it we just put it up on our site" will be an excuse heard in court.
This at least is fairly innocuous, but we're not far from an AI article hallucinating a criminal act and someone getting mobbed because a content farm ChatGPTed them into whatever pizzagate-style conspiracy is gaining momentum.
