It was a much less organic experience than it should be. I don't know if this choice was the convention center's or the MDS, but either way I think if you do a survey, the majority would prefer the traditional poster experience. Amazing conference nevertheless! 3/3

The electronic format limits/virtually eliminates the interaction between the presenters and those who are viewing the posters which is essential for the networking aspect and also for the scientific discussion of the material. Also, the sound on the phone was often delayed and cutting off. 2/3

I think a clear question, solid methods & solid argument advance science most regardless of the story completeness. What is harming science is pushing scientists to publish frequently or in high IF journals leading to "manipulating/inflating" the question, methods, and argument, and hiding truth.

To my knowledge, there was no discussion or mention to cognitive impairment or dementia in the context of gabapentin/pregabalin in the recent RLS guidelines. I think this is something I'm going to discuss with patients going forward. 5/5

Nevertheless, this is an important study that makes us think about chronic gabapentin use. In restless leg syndrome, for example, recent guidelines bumped gabapentin & pregabalin up to the first-line treatment spot because of augmentation & other side effects associated with dopamine agonists. 4/5

Given this and the inflammation and hemodynamic and biochemical changes associated with surgery and anesthesia, it is plausible that surgery in younger patients is also a risk for cognitive decline later in life. Thus, I would have loved to see surgery included in the propensity matching. 3/5

The authors include multiple categories of medications and chronic diseases known to contribute to dementia risk, but not surgery which we know from studies and clinical practice that it increases the risk for delirium and long-term cognitive decline in the elderly. 2/5

Do you recommend it as an add-on to preventives? And, how much do you typically recommend?
