I did absolutely nothing to break in, I was too lazy to submit Old Man's War, so I just put it up on my web site with the assumption it would stay there forever, where it was read by my-soon-to-be editor, who made an unsolicited offer. Was there privilege there? IMMENSE AMOUNTS, actually.

I'm reading "The Long Earth" for the first time, and the dizzying, intimidating CRAFT of Terry Pratchett's composition never ceases to amaze me. "There will always be those who are perennially unreconstructed" is such an insane dunk of a sentence.

I will never not be in love with the characters from my first real story. The amazing work the artist did in bringing them to life certainly didn't help either!
