While it should not necessarily be ignored, by the same token it’s not important if it cannot muster 67 votes in the Senate. Otherwise it’s a waste of time.

For one thing, they're not in Europe. Perhaps that complicates things.

It would be great if legislatures would stop ceding power to executive branches. This war of flipping over Executive Orders every few years isn't helping anyone.

It's important that Dems start finding words and phrases that resonate with regular folk.

What we know really is that it's a stunt bill and has no chance of passage (even in Mississippi).

I see a lot of discussion centered on DEI being about fairness. That may be but the much better argument—which can be backed up with real numbers—is that diversity makes for a better, stronger, and more profitable company. Less political, more grounded in fact than emotion.

That's what you get with too much government by executive order. Too many abject cowards in Congress and that's on both parties.

Survey the popularity of stuff like professional wrestling, tabloid journalism, and how people subscribe to the lowest common denominator on social media to understand that "going high" doesn't reach them and is seen as elitist. Dems can counter this by *plain speaking*.

His aversion to offshore wind (and maybe all wind energy) seems to be more about his ongoing anger at the wind generating mills that can be seen from one of his Scotland golf courses. He sued to have them stopped and lost.

Optimistically, two years. It's important to flip the House in 2026. That's the first thing. Only the first but it's not a small thing.

The best thing about this joke is that it's so painfully obvious once you see it but in 60+ years I've never seen it before.

I read Murkowski's long statement and quietly wondered how such an obvious decision required all that verbiage and self-justification.

They had a long time to peruse the Project 2025 manuscript. They probably took notes. All of this has been set up and likely sequenced for months.

True enough, and that's before even talking about the ABC/Westminster covers.

Re: Trusting PR spin vs. reality

There's a lot of that going around.

Legally (or not), that's what it says if by sex you mean gender. Exactly, at conception.

Perhaps. It's not difficult to imagine that Vance will be more destructive since he's much less of a buffoon. But yes, the day DJT dies will be one of celebration for many.

People can begin to acknowledge that a class war has been waged against the middle class for over 40 years. It's not the worst place to start. And for heaven's sake, find ways to reclaim the rural vote. They will be hurt these next years. Be everywhere and don't relent. Run for school boards.
January 21, 2025 at 6:44 AM
I agree with this. First and foremost, Democrats need to accept that the country thought what Trump was giving them was better than what they were offering. They now need to fight and fight hard to win back the House and do better to win in four years (if there is an election). Contest everything.

The class war going on now for over 40 years is about to shift into high gear.

Unity. Or else.

The only Heinlein I recommend to people these days is his "The Past Through Tomorrow" collection. Campbell is a pass for me although his influence on the field as editor was huge. I think Asimov is better at shorter lengths but all of the Golden Agers are, of course, very dated.

In its day (many decades ago), the Pizza Hut down the road from where I lived was the go-to place to eat.
