A picture of 8 tomatoes from my garden. The red are from a Celebrity plant and the Purplish ones are a hybrid variety from crossing a Cherokee Purple and a Carbon.

Section of my raised garden bed. Planted are onion sets, marigolds, strawberries with white flowers, strawberries with pink flowers, and a Cherokee Carbon Tomato. Section of my raised bed with 3 pepper plants. The farthest on the left is a sweet pepper and the two smallest are jalapenos. The yellow flowered plants are calendulas. The purple flowered plant and the pale yellow and burgundy flowered plant are pansies. There is an anise hyssop plant near the cattle panel trellis behind one of the calendulas. Section of the raised bed with a very cheerful yellow zinnia on the left, chives, two sweet pepper plants with some thyme in the middle. Behind one of the pepper plants are some snapdragons that are starting to recover from our last freeze. Behind the other sweet pepper are pansies. Section of the raised bed with two tomato plants. The smallest is an heirloom sunrise bumblebee. It has some damage from the last freeze we had. Hopefully it won't stunt the plant. I bought it because it was the best one out of that variety and I really wanted a sweet cherry tomato. The other tomato is a hybrid called celebrity. Hybrids aren't GMO. It just means it's not a stable variety yet so the seeds from the fruit might not make the same kind of tomato next year. They are very disease resistant which makes them favorable for most gardeners. The purple and white flowers are sweet Alyssum and there's the cheery little yellow zinnia and snapdragons on the right.

I made a new friend today.

This is the last section. I planted potatoes today.
Section 5 doesn't have the panel even though it's pictured. Potatoes were planted today. Snapdragons, sweet alyssum, and calendula are the flowers pictured

Garden is getting ready for spring. I do have some stuff in the ground but it's spring stuff I'll have to cover. Nothing I can't replace if it doesn't recover from the freeze.
First section of the raised bed. Bed is made with a wooden frame and metal siding. It has onions and marigolds planted. Section 2 with a part of the cattle panel trellis. There are marigolds, sweet alyssum, and onions in the picture. The straw is used as a mulch to keep the soil from drying out. Section 3 snapdragons and chives. Section 4 with cattle panel trellis. Flowers are calendula and the other plants is anise hyssop.

My youngest making "soup". It's a bowl she has filled with sand and water. I added a toy cracker and carrot to it. We are sitting next to her sandbox because she likes to play with sand but not in the sand.

🌱 Potatoes and garlic are doing well. I hope to have some nice pictures to share in a couple of months. #gardening
Yukon Gold potato plants. Plants are green and healthy looking. The potatoes grow underground and are harvested when the leaves start to yellow and die back. It takes 2 to 3 months for them to get to that stage. Elephant garlic tops. The tops kind of look like thick grass blades. Elephant garlic is really a leek that is harvested for it's bulb. It is larger than average garlic varieties. Also pictured red Russian Kale ( frilly edged leaves with red stems), tango leaf lettuce (bright green frilly leaves), English thyme (small green leaves on woody stems),and a light pink and purple dianthus (spiky leaves with pink and purple flowers). Adirondack blue potatoes. The leaves are purplish tented due to the anthocyanins in the plant. The potatoes are also purple skinned and have purple flesh. They take longer to harvest because they grow slower than early varieties like Yukon gold. Italian soft neck garlic. Softneck varieties don't have the hard stem (neck) at the top of the bulb. These varieties bulb better in southern climates due to our mild winters. Planted next to the garlic is a pink dianthus (spiky leaves with small pink flowers), pansies that have been cut back, lacinato kale (dark green fan leaves), and red sails leaf lettuce (leaf lettuce with tinged red leaves). There is also some lemon balm that has somehow found it's way into my raised bed.

I found this so amusing this morning and can't believe I never noticed this before. Apparently I have lesbian teeth lmao.

These are some flowers I grew this summer and put them into a jar to cheer me up. I'm in Texas too and you have my sympathy. The only thing I like is the growing season is long but even that's getting messed up because of climate change.
A mix of different zinnias and basils I put into a mason jar to make me feel better. There's also a few flowering mustard for some added color. I grew these in my backyard so they're not perfect but they're still pretty.

Idk what is going on with me this week but dishes and laundry are like end game bosses. I avoid them until I absolutely have to fight them and it takes me hours to finish them.

Daily dose of touching grass. 🌱
Zinnia bud. Not close to blooming yet but you can see the magenta petals starting to peak through the green part of the bud. Life finds a way. Two tomato plants growing next to the composter. The tomato seedlings are small and the variety is unknown because they are volunteers from tomato seeds from composted tomatoes. Giant orange marigold. One of my favorite flowers. Also pictured is a giant red mustard leaf. Honey bee busily pollinating a flowering Thai basil. The leaves are a striking green contrasting nicely with pale purple flowers that grow in a cluster up a tall stalk.

Not all my gardening has been successful. The okra finally met it's match when a storm blew most of it over and snapped its stems. Most of the reason why it bent and broke is because it was loaded w/okra pods that needed harvested. I will see how many can be saved and dried to save the seeds from. 🌱
Battered okra plants. Many of them broken and bent over because of strong winds. Long pods are still visible. The okra grew in a long sheet metal raised bed with wood boards to cover the sharp edges of the metal. There's also some drip irrigation that will have to be replaced due to wear and tear from the elements.

More of my garden stuff. Tiny eggplants are Thai lavender frog eggplants photo bombed by some long beans that are drying on the vine. Second eggplant is ichiban eggplant. The basket is some lemon thyme and genovese basil I harvested. 🌱
Thai Lavender frog eggplants. They are tiny purple and white eggplants great for curries and stir frying. They are roughly the size of ping pong balls. Also pictured is Thai soldier long beans that got left too long on the vine. They will be picked when the pod dries to save the seeds for next year. Ichiban eggplant. Long dark purple eggplants a great all purpose eggplant for many eggplant recipes or just grilling or sauteing. There is the massive flowering Thai basil that made a huge comeback from the aphid attack a few months ago. A habanero plant loaded with peppers is behind the eggplant. Fresh Lemon thyme and genovese basil in a small green laundry basket.

Took some pictures of a bumper crop of peppers. The habanero plant is loaded but I'm not sure if they'll fully ripen before we get another cold front. The jalapenos are going to get picked tomorrow and turned into jalapeno salsa. 🌱

A mix of zinnias, flowering basils, peppermint, and lemon balm. Also pictured are a very sad Christmas Cactus and a okra plant. The flowers are growing in front of a beige shed with a flood light above it. There's also a wind chimes pictured. A white cactus petaled zinnia next to some holy basil (tulsi) and a very rough looking okra leaf.

Bed prepped and ready for the garlic bulbs. I amended the soil with about 10 gallons of my own compost, garden tone fertilizer, and some Kellogg's organic soil for raised garden beds. The sticks and stuff is to keep cats from using the bathroom in my freshly turned soil.
Cedar raised bed on legs above a pea gravel to provide drainage because it was getting muddy in front of the bed. It is 3ft by 5ft with a depth of about 15 in. The bed is empty of plants. It has a mix of popsicle sticks, planter tags, metal garden staples, and skewers placed to keep cats from using the empty bed as a litter box. The sticks will not harm them but it will deter them. I don't throw these away and reuse them for other gardening stuff. I also compost the spent sticks.

I also managed to save some seeds. Letting stuff get overripe doesn't discourage me because I can always save the seeds to grow them again next year.
Dried pods of the Thai soldier long beans. The pods turn a light brown with the purple striping still visible. The dried beans are cream colored with black speckling. They are a small dried bean about the size of a dime. Dried beans saved in a Ziploc bag to be used next year. The empty dry pods are behind the bag. A handful of beans sit next to the bag because they weren't fully dried yet.
