Listening to NVDA pronounce FAQ reminds me of when we learned the French word for seal in elementary school.

What it takes to get into a position of power directly opposes what it takes to use that power to help others.

Now that it's March and I haven't yet started the blog I resolved to start this year, I've realized something.

I don't avoid writing because of imposter syndrome. It's from exhaustion.

Kiss me, I'm an accessibility specialist with a bit of Irish ancestry.

Figma is freezing every time I try to edit an annotation. I'm about ready to freeze the entire laptop. In the snow.

I don't understand why it's so difficult to believe someone could be proficient in design, dev, and accessibility.

I've been working on the web since I was a teenager. If it takes 5 years to learn a craft, I've had 5 rounds to learn those skills.

I just received a dopamine hit to last me all next week.

I informed someone that the scores provided by semi-automated #accessibility browser scanners aren't reliable or accurate.

I was believed and trusted right away and my recommendation to also do manual testing was taken seriously.

The reason I've made no money with my side app is that I've used it as a learning and experimentation tool. That's what's fun for me.

If I approached it differently, I could monetize it.

Maybe I should, then retire, then have more time to tinker for fun.

I feel semi-confident saying that the most common misunderstanding about how screen reader + keyboard users navigate is that they only use the Tab key.

The Tab key only navigates through interactive elements (links, buttons, inputs).

My day isn't complete without exclaiming, "I hate Microsoft" at least once. Why is the UX so awful?!

Sorry, not sorry.

"Bullies are nothing but bull and lies". I just stumbled upon that and now I need it on a sticker.

Average person at work: Let's have a call instead of all this back and forth with comments.

Me: Sure!

Me, secretly: (But I like the back and forth comments)

Is this a button or a link?

Trick question. It could be a button or a link. Although it looks like a button, the design doesn't determines whether it's a button or a link.

Behavior does.

Does it perform an action? It's a button.

Does it navigate to a different page? It's a link.

Do you work in tech and want to rebel against this administration?

Integrate accessibility into your product work, no matter the laws and the bullshit this administration says, no matter what your execs say.

Treat it as a given, don't ask for permission.

I'm trying to boycott as many things as I can, related to current events. Internet is going to be a tough one because I live rurally.

In places where fascism was a threat and resisted, the only real thing that stopped them was a political alliance of the center and the left.

That's what we should learn from the 1930s.
