New Dungeon Master, documenting my journey into the hobby.

Currently running a D&D campaign for my kid, building from where Peril in Pinebrook left off
Anyone wanna try playing #DnD on Bluesky? Anyone who's around can play for whoever's turn it is, but I need 4 more character submissions to start.

#D&D #ttrpg #letsplay
To hell with it. If I can get 5 character sheet submissions I'll try.

Rules:
- level 2
- anything official WotC
- anything MCDM
- if you really want other homebrew you can ask.
- first 5 get used

Recommend making them easy to run since it'll be drop-in, drop-out
Ok I know this is a crazy idea, but _how_ crazy is it?

Totally async D&D game/combat run on Bluesky where any time it's a PCs turn, the first person to comment decides what that PC does? It'd be easy enough to host character sheets and a map somewhere.

If I get enough interest I think I'd like to give this a shot

I just wanna say, 2 months ago I was a person who thought I couldn't draw my character, and now this is my character and a friend's in my new campaign.

My views on this are certainly evolving as my perception of the barrier to entry for drawing changes.

I know there's a lot of artists on here. As someone just learning, I'm trying to decide if I overworked the head and neck between these two versions of the dragon I'm working on, or if it's just in a weird transition and I should keep going.

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Thought I'd be running combat tonight, but my kid took 45 minutes to investigate the entrance to a goblin hideout and figure out how to handle a pit trap.

Oh well.

#DnD crashed and burned last night 'cuz I tossed the PC into an open-ended social encounter in a tavern and my kid was very much not ready for that. I should've known that, but you live and learn.

I need to do more upfront work to be able to prompt the character and lead the conversation. Any tips?

Finished the unfair Kobold fight last night. Kiddo did amazingly well, surviving two whole rounds at 1HP because of his high AC, but his Wyrmling companion going down early destroyed his chances of coming out on top.

I need to decide what's next after this Kobold encounter. I know I need to prep stuff in Longsaddle, but there's still about 9 days of travel left before getting there and I'm not sure if I want the rest of this leg of the trip to be uneventful.

Started that brutal combat tonight, but time constraints and some slowdowns meant we only got through 1 round of combat. My kid has been surprisingly tactical, targeting the leader, but he's been rolling poorly and the bad guys have been rolling well, so the dragon wyrmling is down.

For next session I've planned a deadly encounter with a lot more Kobolds. My plan is for the party to be knocked out, then restrained and interrogated. The Kobolds have been terrorized by poachers, and assumed the party is with them. When the truth comes out, the party gets a new retainer/sidekick.

After a day of travel, the party is ambushed by Kobolds from the Lurkwood. Ideally they want to investigate where the Kobolds came from afterwards, but I could really use a better hook here to encourage that.

This is where things stand as I start this account.

The adventure began by revealing that the dragon egg stolen by frost giants had been sold to Poachers. They're heading south via The Long Road, and the PCs are tasked with tracking them down and returning with the egg.

This draws them towards the abundant published content in the Sword Coast.

Since a first-level character is really squishy I want to give him a boost without too much extra complexity. Peril in Pinebrook gives the PCs a Wyrmling companion, so I'm using the rules from MCDM's Beastheart and Companions book, but making commanding the companion a free action.

After playing Magical Kitties Save the Day, my six-year-old insisted on trying D&D. I ran him through Peril in Pinebrook to give him a taste, and he's totally hooked. I'm going to document our campaign here, picking up where Peril in Pinebrook left off.
