Like, that's the point, isn't it? The whole thing is very much from Kevin's perspective. So of course the adults are idiots, because Kevin sees them all as idiots. Like, it works.

But the checkout girl instantly notices something is off with Kevin. She knows it's weird for an 8 year old to be buying that combination of groceries alone in the middle of the day. Something is off. And she's the only one with enough sense to even try to ask questions. 11/
