This is exciting news and a step in the right direction, especially considering we haven’t had assistant teachers in classrooms for over a year.

Expect applications to open between 22 April 2025 and 9 May 2025 and interviews and contracting to take place between the 19th and 31st of May 2025.

Demand the Department of Basic Education South Africa and Minister Siviwe Gwarube MP to restore the value of the subsidy to its 2019 purchasing power of R23 (with a commitment to increasing it to R46 by 2030) and increase access to the subsidy for an additional one million children by 2027.
