My colleagues found this yesterday following a settlement about AI, scraping and authorship, and some of us are eligible. We are wondering if it is for real/what the consequences of claiming might be. Any ideas anyone?

Portugal is taking online disinformation and fake news seriously. As part of a broader attempt to encourage media literacy, it’s offering 15-18 year olds a free digital subscription to a range of respected newspapers and magazines as well as online upstarts that don’t spread lies. (Monocle)

This was a brilliant read Amanda, and such open and honest reflections. Its making me think about how we use Nvivo in a public health, local authority context. Something which we’re having continuous conversations about! 👏

With Starmer's talk of 'strangers' in his diatribe this morning (invoking Enoch Powell), it's worth remembering Sara Ahmed's amazing work on how 'strangeness' isn't about a lack of recognition, but how we actually recognise strangeness via the identities and bodies we've been told to fear.

Oh well. I applied for promotion to professor and the internal panel (scientist after scientist after scientist after medic) decided that it wasn’t even worth sending it out to review as I don’t meet the criteria. Apparently. I’m looking forward to the feedback on this one.

I decided to start a #thread 🧵 of stories about legal residents and tourists being (illegally) arrested, detained and/or deported by the Trump regime. I'll only post stories from serious sources, as rumors and conspiracies are really not needed in this authoritarian moment.

I have a new piece out in Area about my frustrations with using NVivo. Yeah. I said it. You all think it when you’re using it, I bet! But it’s more than a rant don’t worry! 😉

Thanks to the late Russell Hitchings for this one…..

First draft for me. It’s much too long, it’s really scrappy in parts, but I have finally written it all out. Now to get it into publisher first draft shape before Easter so it can go out to review. Sabbatical here we go…..

This, X, Apple News — plus the general Trump/Musk situation. Jeez. World is burning.

This is especially serious in countries where FB is the main news source.

Academics and good journalists both so expendable and so necessary rn.

Rant over. I could really go on but won’t.
