like, wearing an off-white dress for ex. is just a tacky thing to do but by breaking a social rule, once it circulates in the “””public square””” (tiktok) the discourse machine psychologically deems it as morally bad as committing a for real heinous crime so it must be punished accordingly etc etc

omg i’ve thought about this a lot because EYE find myself getting mad at people about stupid things and i truly think it’s the tiktok algorithm exacerbating our tendency toward carceral thinking PLUS the waning willingness to distinguish between social/moral/legal rule breaking in the public eye
