they gave me permission to announce this publicly, so here’s my big news:

Oregon Arts Watch, an independent news and criticism site I’ve been a fan of since a team of the state’s leading arts journalists launched it 15 years ago, liked this story so much they’re hiring me to keep covering it
I had, as it turns out, a voluminous quantity of words to say about the National Endowment for the Arts demanding fealty to Trump in their new grant guidelines

(with side tangents into Robert Mapplethorpe, the Eight of Swords in tarot, compliance and resistance, and why budgets are moral documents)
Do Not Obey In Advance: A Moral Crisis in Arts Funding
February energy is the NEA falling apart, a story about my mother, and learning to tell the difference between being trapped and just being scared.

Pretty sure we’re not gonna use this app for the purposes all the art people came here but that’s ok, I’m still gonna occasionally dip in with new ways to say “I don’t know”.

thought from my morning trot: the moon has a half shaded way right now that looks a little off. it is not 'aesthetically pleasing' and i cant help think if someone painted it EXACT they would have buds saying 'you gonna fix your moon?' reality can be sloppy and i think some art critique misses that
