I think it's 50/50. The thrill keeps you happy while you are developing and the satisfaction of the achievement makes you look back and congratuate yourself on how far you have come.

I think the hard cutoffs are a great idea. It signals the brain to transit to another mode from working. Many a time even after work, our brains are still mulling over the issues, causing disconnection and sometimes sleepless nights.
I tend to cook, play with my cats or go bowling to switch off.

Totally can relate. Many years back there was a blackout at my area and my house was the only one with the connection and table lamp still on, albeit with the UPS beeping in the background.
