How is your alt text? Do you know about the setting so that it requires you to post alt text on your photos and images? Are you posting stupid alt text that doesn’t do a good job?

We asked OpenAI to try again but this time, to include context in popular culture and it wrote something very similar to ours above.
OpenAI’s second attempt: A Shiba Inu sits upright on a beige couch, paws crossed, looking sideways with a wide-eyed, skeptical expression. This is the well-known “Doge” meme image, often used in popular culture to convey humorous internal monologues written in multicolored Comic Sans, such as “wow,” “so surprise,” and “much wow.”

I apologize that I didn’t thread it correctly but above, I added a 2-step set of instructions on how to capture the text on an iPhone. I don’t have an Android phone to test but I believe they have similar capabilities.

2/2 Clicking the icon selects all the text. Click Copy All to copy the text.

1/2 On my iPhone, when I view an image, I see this icon, highlighted here in yellow:

iOS voice reader cannot. When I select the image, I can only close it.

Excuses for ableism.

My iPhone can easily OCR text which I then copy into the alt text.

In this case, the alt text should not just say “a photo of Kash Patel” but could include context (who is he) and all the tweet text.

Also, there’s a setting that won’t let you post until you add alt text.
