I don't know. I remember Steve Edberg being there, and commenting that the seeing might have been subarcsecond. It was the night of August 16-17. Closest approach was August 27 (UT).

In August 2003 during Mars' perihelic opposition, Jean got a free night on the 60-inch at Palomar and invited some of her friends. I had to work until 9 pm that evening and drove two hours to get there. The seeing was very good, and I took this image of Mars.
