The mayor of Newark was arrested today while protesting at a federal immigration detention center operated by GEO Group — a private prison company and major Trump donor.

Kudos to Ras Baraka for standing up to this authoritarian regime.

Toni Morrison's novels are NOT "poison". #Florida citizens, hurry! Tell your reps 🚫 NO on HB 1539
HB 1539 heads to the floor on Thursday (4/24).

Call your Rep and 3 more in your area. Tell them you support the amendments, but ultimately not a bill that seeks to give the state power to ban books against the will of the people.

HB 1539 just passed out of committee with a 13-4 vote.

There was a lot of gaslighting and misinformation again about what this bill does and doesn’t do.

Not all “classics” are safe - only those the FLDOE preserves in standards.

More to come on next steps.
We have 24hrs to officially stop HB 1539/SB 1692 from becoming law this legislative session!

Please form your own statement on why the Education Administration Subcommittee Members should vote "NO" on HB 1539 tomorrow and call or email them before 12:30pm on 4/2.

Yesterday, Senator McClain struggled to answer pretty clear questions about his bill (SB 1692).

Here, he provided factually inaccurate info about the committee review and appeal process. (See ALT text for details)

FL House Rep @ritaforflorida.bsky.social has filed HB 6037.

This bill would return local control to our library curation practices by repealing the language that was added to statute 1006.28 by HB 1467 (2022) and HB 1069 (2023).
