Thank you @cuffianart.bsky.social for this opportunity, I learned a huge amount from this!

Tendrils
Soft pastel on ingres, Nov 2025

Another practice piece. Working out how to get depth with pastel. Also trying out masking tape methods for clean lines, very challenging with such an unstable medium.

"Slide"
Pastel on ingres, Nov 2025

Trying some stuff. A (very very bad) style study of Cuffian Art's work, go look at his stuff it's way better than this!

Squash Leaves In Abstract - October 2025
Pastel on ingres paper.

I visited a pumpkin patch with my wife for our third anniversary and felt inspired. Using this as a chance to try out some new methodologies from an abstract painting book by Rolina van Vliet.

"Somewhere Somewhen" - Soft pastel on ingres paper. July-Augist 2025.

I used a lot of different techniques to end up at this result. It looks better than I imagined it would, but I have a long way to go in terms of composition study.

Biggest courgette of the year. I didn't spot this one as it started to grow and it ended up getting another three weeks than I typically leave them. Calling this one the moregette.

"Emergence" - May 2025
Soft pastel on ingres paper

My favourite piece so far. Had to work some things out. As usual, this looks better in person.

I tried to fix this piece with a fixing spray and ruined it (pic 1). All the layers compacted and darkened. I added some more pastel but it didn't look good.

So I just redid it applying everything new I've learned since. (Pic 2)

Soft pastel on ingres, March 2025.

A WIP for you all.
And also for me, because I'm about to work on this again and I'm afraid I'll ruin it.
As usual, soft pastel on ingres.

Pastel on ingres paper.
March 2025

This is the third attempt at this piece and I'm finally satisfied enough to leave it alone for now. Maybe I'll try again when I've learnt more but for now I'm moving on to other ideas.

Pastel on ingres paper, February 2025

I don't have a title for this one as the process was a lot less structured than prior pieces. Wanted to see if it's possible to get a matte colour onto this paper using pastel alone.

"Another Place"
Pastel on ingres paper, January 2025

I don't like everything about how this turned out. Most happy with the upper third, that purple shade took a long time to get right.

I'm feeling generous, so here's the WIP shot of my current piece. Flat colours are in. Need to blend a lot of this, then work out the loose pastel. Second layer will define the rock face, and deepen the water/foliage. Sky needs more work, piece needs fixative before that.

December 2024
Soft pastel on ingres

This was the second attempt at this piece and it still didn't go as planned. Still figuring out how the medium works, having a great time doing so.

"Bonded" - November 2024
Mixed pastel on ingres paper.

I'm really proud of this one. It's taught me that every pastel, cheap and expensive, has a use and a place.

This is a piece about polyamory.

"Outgrouped"
Hard pastel on ingres paper, November 2024.

This was initially going to be a different piece, but the background didn't turn out the way I wanted. Still very much finding my feet. #art

"Anti-Permanent"
Oil-pastel on ingres paper; October 2024

My first completed piece of traditional artwork in 20 years. Trying out some things. Next one will be better.
