If you label the fish from A to D, the 4th letter would be D and so the 4th fish would be the “D” koi. D koi is a homophone of “decoy,” which means to lure a person or animal away from an intended target. So when the koi are attacked they leave the D koi / decoy to lure danger while others flee.
