Not long after I left school, in the late 70s I worked in the admin (personnel) dept for Merseyside Fire Brigade, and the Firefighters still took courses to earn the title "Merryweather Turntable Ladder Operator", so this photo and story fascinated me as I had no idea of the history of Merryweather!

The blitz destroyed the streets now built over by the Barbican estate. St Giles Cripplegate survived but Red Cross Street fire station was lost in the 1960s
