I Enjoy Ice Cream, How About You?
@allthepaperever.bsky.social
Pandemic aware progressive. I like anthropology, stability, writing, making art, laughing, living in the present while caring about the future, and lemon custard ice cream.

I like safe spaces.

I like "like" lists.

Thanks for reading!
Intelligence is not always a choice.

But learning is. Whether to learn or not, to explore your curiosity or not...whether to listen in class and study what is offered and ponder on it...those are choices.

The moral failing is in being smart enough to be curious but willfully staying ignorant.

I don't remember much about the movie, but I do remember her performance in it was stunning. Same with Nell.

What's the book's political bent, theme-wise? Does it lean libertarian or right in any way? Or leftward? Or tread both sides?

I wonder if there exists a tiny fraction of folks who've been able to catch scattered falling coins in this mess.

But if that's so, then they have to be determinedly not looking at the other parts of the elephant that at this point are so...so obvious to even the most stubbornly ignorant.

Nice. That's pretty much the lay of the land in this world of the individual's endless journey toward glory.

But because we choose to survive.

Violence as a way of life is anti-survival.

We now have the resources, means, and ability to help everybody survive. Peacefully.

That is the only sustainable - and I would argue deeply natural - way to live.

Our superpower is the way we can NOT turn violent on each other.

The way we think forward, recognize the value we all bring, and support each other to MINIMIZE violence.

And that's why people say violence is not the answer.

Not because we're sheep, or placid, or devoid of violent urges.

If we let free our instincts to tear each other down, we're screwed.

If we make a pact to leash in our violent urges, we get safety.

We are not "naturally" warriors against each other. We're naturally social beings.

Yeah, we fight. Earthquakes happen. But fighting is not our superpower.

Every person is down. Nobody is functional. How does that survival thing work now?

Who is left to assist you? Who will feed you? Help you build? Furnish materials? Remember, the storms keep coming.

That is what unleashed human-on-human violence looks like.

What if every day you got hit with an earthquake, hurricane, and blizzard. Every. Single. Day. Would you be okay?

What's that? You say you could survive?

Oh-kay. So extend that to everyone. All that natural violent weather happens everywhere, unchecked, to every person. Every single day.

This was way funnier once I (clueless) had someone explain it to me!!

Uh-huh. Tolerance is a peace treaty, not a moral precept.

I recently linked to this astute essay on another thread, in case anyone hadn't seen it - it blew me away the first time I read it, and I've read it a couple of times since:

Tolerance is not a moral precept
The title of this essay should disturb you. We have been brought up to believe that tolerating other people is one of the things you do if…

I'd love to see them explain how a rat trapped into running on a wheel forever will never collapse. Other than in fantasy.
November 19, 2025 at 9:53 AM
Totally.

Not to mention you can't take jobs that don't exist...or that don't pay a living wage. Nor can you profit off a consumer market that's bereft of funds.

The bootstraps claim just barely worked when jobs and growth were rising.

Now? Shaming and blaming laziness is a lie on every front.

Yes, exactly. It's the disconnect between the childish language and the power he wields.

Every time he says someone is "nasty" and a "bad person" it reminds me of the chilling 1953 science fiction horror story "It's a Good Life" by Jerome Bixby.

Yikes, I didn't mean to hijack - just to say that every day it's getting more important to explicitly challenge MAGAts when they try to embrace us as "like them".
November 19, 2025 at 5:40 AM
I don't usually speak up. I usually keep my voice noncommittal.

But I started this account because it's very, very important to me to make it known that MAGA does not speak for my kind.

I am a GenX white woman who has not had an easy life. But marginalized people are not why I am in my situation.
November 19, 2025 at 5:35 AM
Manufactured loyalty is a meaningless bond. There is no betrayal of your own kind when you speak out against MAGA as a Christian, white man, heterosexual, etc.

When you acknowledge the harm and insanity of MAGA, it's like blasting to the world you're a sane adult and an excellent person to know.
November 19, 2025 at 5:23 AM
Great point. MAGA voices strive to bond themselves to the wider audience. They claim to speak for all men, all white people, all Christians, etc.

And tragically some are swept up, thinking, "Yeah! Gotta stand with my bros!"

MAGA will claim everyone's voice if we don't make ours louder & stronger.

Remember when influencing was the good kind?

"Mmm, veggies, yummy."

"Be respectful so we can all get a turn."

"Treat others as you'd like to be treated."

Remember when being good wasn't demonized?

I'm incredibly cynical. But I believe that as long as we keep remembering, we can get it back.

Agree. 99% of my voluntary reading has been escapism.

And I love hearing kid brags - THESE days! In the olden days it felt more like parents competing with each other vs. actually celebrating their kids.

Specifically, hope that their propaganda reach will thin out.

They unified under propaganda pandering to their mass delusions.

Now each one must scramble to keep their stance by stripping a single delusion away, but doubling down on the rest.

The infighting will break them up. I hope.
