Little red dragonflies are slowing down enough to be intercepted but the big blue dragonflies are still sharp.

First time growing dahlias this year 🏵️

The Bear Gulch fire has burned the Mt. Rose trail. In 2018 @thebuttercat.bsky.social and I climbed it, it was tough but it was a beautiful view from the top. There were signs of wildfires, but it was recovering. Now its back at square 1. Wildfires are natural, but not this many so close together.
A steep trail winding through a misty forest. There are tall Douglas fir and Western Hemlock trees on both sides of the trail, their tops lost in the mist. There's a mossy log on the left, and the understory is crowded with fir and hemlock saplings. A hiker, seen in profile, is looking up at the trees. He's a white adult with shaggy red hair wearing shorts, a flannel, sneakers and carrying a backpack. An area recovering from a forest fire. It's a slope covered in thin Douglas firs, all burnt on the side facing up the slope. The understory is much less developed here, but it's evenly coated with green. There are several fallen trees. A few small ferns stand out. On the right side of the picture, a vine maple, a short deciduous shrub, can be seen. In the center of the image a mountain stream cascades over dark colored rocks. On the left side of the picture are branches of a western red cedar, a feathery and fern like conifer. On the right, a mossy tree trunk and a leaves of a big leaf maple. The view from the top of Mt Rose. Hood canal can be seen on the left side of the picture curving between two mountainous landmasses, both covered in trees. There's a bit of sunlight, but clouds cast their shadows on the slope. Burt tops of trees can be seen in the left foreground, with a couple of green conifer saplings among them.

Pepino Melon: It was like a bland watery tomato with the texture of a peach and a banana aftertaste. 2 stars. I don't regret trying it, but I wouldn't get it again.

Today, and every day

I thought it would be white or light yellow on the inside, but it was orange! The inside was firm and the taste very similar to cantaloupe, but milder, with a strong honey aftertaste. 5 stars

After realizing I'd only ever tried the big 3 (Honeydew, Watermelon, Cantaloupe) I've decided to try new melons. First up, unlabled yellow melon found at the store. Even the cashier didn't know what it was and rang it up as a cantaloupe.

Found this beautiful shell at
Chambers Bay yesterday. Apparently it's cone snail of some kind and typically found in Japan and Hawaii! Incredible to think it tumbled across the Pacific Ocean and arrived in one piece. Forgive my profoundly ashy palm it was a dry ass 33 degrees lmao.

This is going to be me this year, listening to 1 new album a week (also plan to get better at swimming and use all vacation days even if just in to loiter around town/the house but that's not relevant to the meme)
