Trying something new this weekend, linocut! I’ve been wanting to learn for a while & finally snagged a workshop spot at Martha Street Studio. I’ll have holiday cards printed when done. Just as satisfying as I’d thought it would be, this may become a regular practice.

Early autumn light, meadow study

A little autumnal light & landscape from my archives. I've been collecting "meadow studies" for decades. The magical mix of light & texture creates a feeling of calm contemplation.

A little obsessed with these tomatoes that go from green to purple to red as they ripen, glowing like jewels in the late summer sun.

Unofficially passed my Canadian citizenship test today (pending verification) and celebrated by taking my winter-loving Vallhund for a brisk walk in -30C windchill. There should be extra credit just for going outside in Winnipeg this time of year! 🇨🇦

From a winter walk down by the river a couple days ago, grainy video of an owl swooping at a squirrel in a tree, with a woodpecker then diving at the owl. Watched this happen several times, any birder theories about the woodpecker’s participation? Merlin app is guessing Great Gray or Barred owl.

As a transplant to Manitoba I have to say, winter has become one of my favourite seasons. The natural beauty is amazing and the light is exceptional.

Ursus maritimus is a fearsome predator but also a species subject to the fragility of the arctic environment in a rapidly warming world. In these aerial photos I tried to capture the magnificence of polar bears and a sense of their vulnerability.

A favourite from some still life studies I did last year. All natural light, reflected by windows in a sunroom. Arranging the blue-green glass vases for the most interesting layered shadows was a tricky but enjoyable challenge.

Newly released as an open edition print in my shop.

Dense forests of Pinus contorta meet the white sand beaches of McMicking Inlet. Rock faces have been carved by the surf. Seedlings grow in crevices, just out of reach of high tide.

A beautiful reminder of how one way or another, life goes on.
