I'm not frequently on social media, but I've returned with photos of globular clusters M3, M5, M13 and M53

it has taken me a while to process, partially due to laziness. Europa made an eclipse of Jupiter on the 18th of last month.
I decided to keep recording even after the eclipse was over to capture the red spot and then Io reappearing out of Jupiter's shadow at the end #astrophotography #Jupiter

while working on a bigger project involving Jupiter, I tried to average out 5 hours of its rotation into a single image just for fun.
what I ended up with is an uncomfortably smooth, but still recognizable planet.
I can't explain it, but it feels eerie to look at

I’m learning that virtually all DSLR cameras have a built in infrared blocking filter that can be removed to allow for infrared photography. It sounds intriguing to me.
I’m not trying that with my main camera, I don’t trust my abilities enough for that, but I might buy a cheap used DSLR to try on

I captured a few asteroids last night, but I find this one the most interesting.
this is 70 Panopaea. it is a 12th magnitude asteroid about 80 kilometers wide, 315M km away
that fuzzy patch in the top right corner is also 12th magnitude, except it's the galaxy NGC-2964 2 trillion times further away

captured the asteroid 15 Eunomia over the span of an hour

very cold winter night, which means clear views of the sky (if you ignore the clouds)
tried to see which magnification was best for Jupiter. seems like it's just a tradeoff of contrast VS resolution. fuckin beauty either way.
moons from left to right are Europa, Ganymede, Io

Anyone else remember this episode of Adventure Time?

Hello space people. Don’t get your hopes up too high, I’m only a space nerd *sometimes*
February 9, 2025 at 4:40 AM
yeah that's probably about it for the cool recent stuff I've done
February 8, 2025 at 9:42 PM
now, as a final thing, I'm starting a new project where I photograph the first 100 discovered asteroids. Here's 69 Hisperia #astrophotography #asteroid #space

and then some random nebulae (NGC 2438, Crab Nebula)

here is a photo of Io (on the lower right edge of Jupiter's disc) casting a shadow onto Jupiter. Ganymede can be seen in the upper left corner as well #astrophotography #jupiter #eclipse

Mars made its closest approach a few weeks ago, so I decided to start a project where I recorded a full rotation of the planet (24H 37M) and have spent every night I could for the last month trying to record this footage (including 90% clouded nights and mornings) #astrophotography #mars #timelapse

never really had a social media before, but I'm gonna share some recent astrophotography
