Maybe this changes if private or restricted content is ever added to atproto and Bluesky, but until then I don't know that this problem is solvable.

I really feel like people who want or need enhanced security and privacy protections chose the wrong tool with Bluesky, and isolated fedi instances or private forums are a better fit for those protections. However that then severely hampers discoverability and collaboration for newcomers.

That said, everything posted here is public for now. Whether or not someone has an account or is banned has zero impact on them being able to see posts, followers, and likes of any other users, so banning someone does nothing to address those concerns.

I feel the Bluesky team messes this up by being inconsistent, taking more extensive moderation actions some times but not others, when they should probably stick to the bare minimum and continue working on tools for personal, individual moderation.

using tools like the labels, lists, muting, and the nuclear block. But there seem to be a lot of users who don't want to do that, instead wanting some authority who moderates for them, but only makes the decisions the users want. That's an impossibility for any site.

This is very good! It's easy to understand but also gets into the details about what makes atproto different. Well done!

And in the end it's just glorified autocorrect.

Again, I don't think anyone is going to change their view based on my thoughts. But I keep seeing people talking about how great it is to outsource their critical thinking and creativity to machines, and it just makes me sad, and this doesn't even include concerns about corporations exploiting us.

There are certainly places where AI could be advantageous with pattern recognition, like analyzing medical imaging, astronomical phenomena, things where something either is or isn't there. I think human review should still be required in those cases, though.

I've had a few near misses myself in my life and it always takes me a while to process it afterwards, but it's also weird and surreal replaying the events. I'm glad you two are okay, though!

He looks so much like our late, old man Scooter, who was also a very talkative guy for 18 or so years. Kitties are the best.

The interface sucks. The search sucks (and doesn't even work currently). Navigation sucks. It's consistently inconsistent and just about every search result for themes takes you to one of their domains. I really wish there were some alternatives, but I haven't been able to find any.

I didn't! but now that you mention it...

yes, yes it is...

I think any time I've installed anything that used haskell it required a whole lot of packages. So I think that's normal?

you need feeds! then you can get news and stuff without following, but also pushing it off to a separate tab so it isn't front and center

I don't think I've actually used lp in a long time. I feel like lpr/lpd traumatized me back before CUPS was a thing. Interesting to know it's still a thing, but via CUPS now!
