I am so fucking sick of fake AI bullshit. My apartment complex's office won't even let me talk to a person on the phone anymore, only a "virtual agent" pretending to be a person where they've added fake office sounds in the background while you're talking to it (muffled voices, ringing phones).

This is just my opinion, but I feel the disconnect between the Bluesky team and people upset about moderation issues is because the Bluesky team doesn't want to moderate anything but the bare minimum, stuff like spam and illegal content, as they expect everyone to moderate their own experiences

To all companies that make shower poufs, could you please stop making the thing you hang it with the same color as the pouf? I don't have the time or energy to go searching for it when I need to hang it back up. 😩

I'm so very tired.

Not that anyone cares about my opinion, but I do wonder how many others have similar feelings about AI/LLMs. I really don't like the idea of using technology to outsource creativity and imagination, things like writing, art, programming, and critical thinking.

I absolutely hate all the *-look sites (gnome-look, kde-look, xfce-look) for GTK/Qt/icon themes. I have no idea why the community somehow standardized on that site (run by Pling?) because it's been terrible for as long as I can remember.

I swear, #spaceengineers is the most addictive game. Well, I guess if you're a nerd and like building things that do things, but that's me, so... yeah.

Anyway, it's a great game!

Definitely having one of those tech-person-absolutely-hates-tech nights. I really wish more programmers would stop making assumptions that certain things won't ever change, that a shitty generic way to do something is better than using software properly, and that generic errors are somehow helpful.

This whole thing with #firefox and their new terms of service that seem to say any data you enter into the browser is somehow shared with #mozilla is really, really, really messed up. Can we just have one god damned thing that isn't made to exploit us? I am so tired.

Very sad to hear about David Lynch's passing. He truly was a unique, talented, and influential filmmaker. I think I may need to rewatch Twin Peaks soon.

I'm not entirely sure if this is in your wheelhouse @mmasnick.bsky.social but have you seen the latest posts from @proton.me (and their CEO) regarding politicians, anti-trust, and tech companies? Just thought I'd mention it in case it was of interest.

Okay, what is the deal with YouTube ads that look like they're homemade or done from a phone? Is it supposed to look like some Internet personality made it, therefore make the brand look trustworthy? Because it just comes across to me as being cheap with shit audio. They're incredibly annoying.

I was trying to set up a photo organization/sharing solution that was #self-hosted using #ente, since it's end-to-end encrypted and seems pretty nice. But damn, the self-hosting aspects of it are just so wonky that I don't feel I could depend on it at all. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Finally got Facebook deactivated. I hope to delete the account at some point, but for right now deactivation works. They can cater to all the racists, bigots, and Nazis they want without my involvement. I do hope eventually their business sees consequences for their unacceptable actions.

I finished Indiana Jones and the Great Circle last night. It was such a good game and such an #IndianaJones story! I took my time to try and explore every aspect I could, do all the side quests, etc. I really, really enjoyed it. I can't wait for the DLC!

I keep reading about people complaining about not being followed back, not being able to build "engagement", etc., Is that view really that mainstream, because if so it's vastly different from how I use social media and it's really weird.

I've been playing Indiana Jones and The Great Circle and wow, the game is amazing! They completely nailed the feel of the films, with the game itself feeling like a new Indiana Jones movie. I am definitely enjoying it!

I really don't understand why so many people say they want a global, open, social network, but where posts are only viewable by specific people, their profiles are private, and only people they approve of can join. Pretty sure what they want is a forum, not a social networking site.

After reading so much #atproto vs #activitypub stuff, I think I've come away with the conclusion that each side wants very different things with a few overlapping similarities, and that I prefer atproto's approach for social media. I'm also tired of reading about this stupid rivalry.

Looking for suggestions. What are some reputable, #independent #news organizations that aren't doing all the current mainstream media nonsense and report on national happenings?

I just want to say that homemade seitan is really freaking good. And as a meat alternative you can make at home with primarily shelf stable ingredients, that just makes it even more awesome.

I've noticed when reading any WaPo Q&A sessions with journalists that the journalists, whomever they are, are never, ever wrong. They defend the media 100% constantly, deflecting about the lack of coverage by pointing to a single, obscure story that got posted about the topic.

I wonder how useful a modern day #fidonet style network would be for more decentralized organization/messaging. Fidonet still exists, although kind of a shadow of itself, but I dunno... just thinking about new applications for some old tech. Also #bbs because they're still awesome.

As amazing as USPS is for delivering mail pretty much anywhere, sometimes they are really, really irritating. I rarely check mail in my apartment mailbox because it's 99% junk mail that I didn't ask for, so I only really check it if I know a package is coming that I couldn't get via UPS or FedEx.
