Speck Dempsey has released the Downtown Louisville and NuLu Walkability Plan. Its 100 pages but here are some highlights when it comes to recommendations. These changes would drastically improve mobility downtown.

Imagine living in a suburb that had streetcar service for decades and then opposing it's re-implementation.

Looking at archival papers on Louisville's old rail infrastructure is fun but sometimes it feels like getting hit in the head with a brick repeatedly

Who wants to bet the $17 million surplus from the mid-year budget adjustment, that likely stems from overfunding LMPD, is going to be re-allocated back to LMPD again.

Just added Louisville's 1916 Streetcar Network to Rails to the Past. The network's 15 lines are all marked.

Old survey on passenger rail in Louisville. Note how they want to fund it 🤔

Very funny (and sad) how Greenberg's mayoral website highlights decreasing homeless encampments rather than actual homelessness. Pretty emblematic of how his administration deals with the problem - out of sight out of mind.

Almost exactly 32 years ago today, Louisville lost a massive warehouse building in the heart of our downtown live on MTV.

While the lot would eventually become a nice green space, this seems like a lost opportunity for a ton of new housing if the building was reutilized instead.

Love the St James Art Fair but kinda entering Karen mode over my neighbors using our pedestrian court to sell parking. Its public ROW but the city won't do anything about it.

Fifth St between York and Broadway is now two way. So this means all of Fifth between Broadway and Gaulbert in Old Louisville is now two way!

Good to see the dangerous ass slip lane removed from 2nd and Main. It made this intersection one of the worst for pedestrians downtown.

Looks like parts of Main Street downtown have been downsized to two car lanes + one unprotected bike lane. Seems like some early action is being take on the central phase of Main Remade between 2nd and 10th streets.

Vibrant, successful downtowns are built on density and walkability. This is something we knew over 100 years ago, but we destroyed much of that so we could displace black residents and make driving more convenient.

Also, a new *temporary* transit hub is going in at the Former Greyhound site which is currently an empty field.

Happy #TrolleyTuesday

These are two of my favorite old pictures of Louisville's trolleys. The first shows 4 trolleys on Liberty St on a 1938 afternoon.

The second shows the interior of a Louisville streetcar in 1929.

It has begun.

Looks like there working on the opposite side across 2nd. Really hope the bike lane isn't randomly switching sides again.
