I didn’t mean that own shouldn’t remove tracking parameters, but it’s often the case that there are query string parameters that are essential for actually sending a link that’s useful. Training people to simply remove “everything after ’?’” isn’t a full solution if they don’t understand the action.

I was hoping to find a reply like this. The challenge with this is that unless either (or both): you are a/the website developer, or you can reasonably identify what you're seeing, blithely telling people to remove the query string parameters is going to break at least some sites. Bad UX results.

I figured it out on my own but for a moment I thought that was Gabrielle from Xena.

I used to volunteer for a library that used a late 80s/early 90s ILS with a terminal interface. It was extremely fast, dead easy to use, and consistent between self-checkout, OPAC, and staff interfaces. It wasn’t Dynix, but it was great. The years long Horizon replacement program ended in disaster.

Don’t worry everyone. The most important issue here already has an answer: RTO mandates don’t apply to the CEO.

It strikes me that Season 1 of Star Trek (anything) always seems rough. I want to tell the writers and cast “at ease, Ensign, before you sprain something.”

(2/2) I also think that the inherent decoupling between login credentials and domain name may prove to be a security property that limits blast radius, at least insofar as a threat actor doesn’t have DNS access to hijack a handle.

I agree, it will be interesting to see how verification evolves. A “major” social platform hasn’t launched in a long time, so in some ways this is all uncharted. I predict we’ll see domain typo-squatting used for impersonation, but that might not be any different from typo-squatting a handle. (1/2)

Liz, I really appreciate what you do. Thank you. You’re just great.

I like being able to assume a domain name as a handle. I do wonder if eventually some *identity* verification will be desirable/needed. Authority control, as it’s referred to in some disciplines. I like how the EU Commission is doing it with subdomains; cf. Ursula von der Leyen’s handle.
