The beach this morning looking as good as a silvered clock dial again
January 25, 2025 at 10:58 PM
I had the best day today, surveying the structure and dials on the stables tower while Peter of The Cumbria Clock Company dismantled the motionworks & clock movement for overhaul. The clock was originally installed by London Clockmaker Langley Bradley in 1725.

Sunset while walking across the fields home tonight. It was one great big orange globe of loveliness

Clock, moon and bird 😀
Lovely day for work today, a big improvement on the cold sleety snow yesterday
January 9, 2025 at 6:40 PM
In the light of all the announcements & shenanigans going on elsewhere, decided this is really the only place to be.
In other news I had to escape to my car when it started to snow today during a sort of "watching brief". I have quite a high tolerance for the cold but 8 hours outside was too long

Moon and Venus over Emsworth tonight

Greetings at the start of a new working week. Very pleased to be back in Bath for a bit & also to see the sun after a rather dull and wet (but deliciously fun) weekend in Sussex.
Have an excellent day all

The Christmas Tree has been dressed & is in its usual place next to the regulator by London clockmaker John Shelton (mid 18th century). This year for the first time in some years the clock is running after we completely overhauled the movement & the beautiful high quality mahogany case. Very happy!

Loving discovering all the hashtags I used to enjoy over there....... Here for #adoorablethursday Boxgrove Priory this morning, simple but ... well...just adorable
November 28, 2024 at 7:20 PM
He did. We are lucky the Franciscan priory building in Chichester ended up being used as a law court, so more of it now remains, but Boxgrove is certainly more atmospheric

I am on the road delivering some small conservation projects. Going through Boxgrove Village the sun was still low in the sky so I stopped at the 12th century ruins for a bit. This was a small priory connected to the Abbey of Lessay in France until it was dissolved by Henry VIII. Enjoy!

Woo #hillfortwednesday is also on here. Hoorah! To introduce to those who didn't know me elsewhere. I work around (& often with) the environs of The Trundle, hillfort of archaeological significance but also a magical place. It dominates the skyline of Chichester so 👋 to other hillforts today.

Please enjoy whatever the collective noun for a group of plovers is, as they did a fly past at the beach this morning. Particularly demonstrates the way the light changes depending which way you look. It's blissful and I appreciate it very much

Beautiful light on the beach right now. Plovers and gulls loving it.
Have a good day all

Oh goodness it's #mosaicmonday. I haven't posted that in ages due to having left that other site some time ago. So to join in, here's a detail of a mosaic close to my heart, from a good sized "town house". Found in East Street, Chichester by workers digging a drain in 1959. It dates to 2nd Century

I am looking at some sundials today for a bit of a thing! What better ones to start with as I pass by, on a beautiful day like today, than the ones @chicathedral.bsky.social. See that #bluesky too

Morning all
Very windy and grey outside
Here are 16 seconds of Lyra who has the right idea.

Sunday snoring cat
Enjoy!
(We can literally hear this from upstairs)

Clocks and Christmas, trees etc @nationaltrust.bsky.social Standen House (stunning Arts and Crafts House in East Grinstead, West Sussex)
Beautifully decked out now, both in the house and outside too
Well it made me happy anyway..

Nothing says a snowday like Lyra and Elma cuddled up in the small catbed
November 21, 2024 at 1:53 PM
Weather yesterday while out and about doing the clock and conservation rounds, versus today, in same area. Less than 24 hours and it couldn't be more different. Equally beautiful though

Now I know what it is like to be a small animal sitting in a field with this hovering above them. Look at that eye! Definitely felt seen

Ps no snow here on the southcoast, only a very cold, bright blue sky
November 20, 2024 at 6:58 PM
No literal blue sky today but I have a planned admin day so not on the road. I will hunker down in the workshop/studio/office to do the paperwork. Instead of the beach for my morning walk, I went to the fields, where I met these two again. A good start to the day despite the grey outlook.

Post a picture you took (no description) to bring some zen to the timeline

These are the cuprits who recreated the Velociraptor hunting scene in Jurassic Park on the workshop studio floor earlier. Now looking like butter wouldn't melt.
They are Elma and Lyra by the way
