Oh and that statement does not mean that everyone with this take is good. Yes there are absolutely some that will take it far into the xenophobic side. I'm just showing it's possible to somewhat agree with the statement without being evil.

I'm not saying that everyone that are being called a Nazi are not ones (I saw quite a few where I agree actually!), but it really does feel like a few people (not all!) have taken this label and just applied it to a lot of things they don't like or agree with

We're not saying that's it's too complicated to deal with Nazis, we are just stating that the term has been used on the internet a bit too much and has started to dilute the meaning. While I haven't been called anything for this post for example, I've seen others get backlash for mondane things:
crazy how this statement has lead to a lot of people calling others xenophobic. Like I agree mostly with this answer, and I wouldn't say I am. Actually since the definition is "fear or hostility toward foreigners in general", a tiny bit in the fear related to culture. Let me explain (thread)

To be clear on the last sentence, the "but" is not meant to be negative. I'm already done thinking that being selfish is a bad thing. Egoism and narcissism are more accurately what we actually don't like to see in others. selfish (at least the way I define it) does not exclude helping others!

...but it can come at a cost of culture in *some* places if not somewhat regulated.

I think I'm done. I'm not re-reading this because I am on a tight schedule, but if anyone wants me to elaborate on something, let me know, always happy to talk and learn!

Meanwhile, for non-casual immigrants, their options are usually less present as it is more time-sensitive and they might not have time to learn a new language.

This is one of the main gray areas in my mind. I love the humanitarian/societal/economic aspect of having people immigrate...
October 24, 2025 at 7:50 PM
Meaning there would be a type of expectation that I integrate myself into the culture *because* i choose that place with all the choices at my disposal.
October 24, 2025 at 7:50 PM
Trying to put myself into these shoes, I would be fine immigrating to a better country for me even if they require (in whatever way) that I learn their language (language is not all of a culture, but I'm keeping it simple here).
October 24, 2025 at 7:50 PM
Obviously, it is, in practice, a gray zone, a spectrum if you want. But for the sake of this, let's keep it separated in two types. The first type has time to choose where to go.

Now for casual and non-casual immigrants. I define casual immigrants as people that are at ease in their current country, but want to change for some better life/laws/culture that fit them better. For non-casual immigrants. It's more on the side of "life or death". They just want to go somewhere.

The issue is changing. It's easy to say "well just speak english", but that completely misses all the destabilization and "not funness" that the people would experience (you probably wouldn't want this happening to you, and saying that doesn't mean you are against a universal language).
October 24, 2025 at 7:50 PM
This causes a degradation of the cultures of these places, which does not feel fun (imagine having your culture slowly removed in whatever country you are in, it's usually not fun. Now it may sound contradictory, but I'm actually very much in favor of a universal language.

Some places like Catalonia, Belgium and Quebec are suffering culturally from outsiders, be that casual immigrants or non-casual (terms I just made up, I'll explain later). They have a culture/language/... they want to preserve, but outsiders challenge that culture by bringing in their own.

crazy that so many of my answers are "kind of, but assuming we can give better education to everyone"

So many things can be better with good education I feel like
October 24, 2025 at 7:24 PM
Like I have not been able to get to a good answer for this one even by thinking about it multiple time and with multiple angles in the past
October 24, 2025 at 7:03 PM
Maybe I have a biased view for some reasons, but to me, it would end up breaking a lot of society into smaller "clans", with disputes that would more often be "resolved" using violence.

fair. we might not get to know his real intentions, so getting another candidate is probably fine to avoid more drama (i don't follow too much the specifics but I'll trust the ~9 candidates here).

but it's not like someone random could have made him realize easily. But he did not tell that is the bit that I listened so it is weird.

For the reddit account part, although I didn't have a past like that, I think it's understandable and it even points to his tatoo story being more real in a way
