Unknown creatures spotted lounging on the top of a pillar box in Ledbury yesterday.

Many thanks to them all for a great evening!

Having a lovely time at Ty Newydd, Literature Wales's writing centre in Llanystumdwy, Gwynedd. Lovely tutees, lovely fellow tutor @vaseemkhanuk.bsky.social & beautiful surroundings. This is the path down to the most important part of the whole centre - the kitchen and hall where everything happens!

Great time in Bath @mrbsemporium.bsky.social yesterday when I dropped in with a proof of The Hunters Club and was asked to contribute to their display of authors' pens hanging from the ceiling. If you're in Bath, do pay Mr B's a visit - the booksellers are friendly and incredibly knowledgeable!

Had a great time at Criminally Good Books in York when I popped in recently to drop in a proof copy of The Hunters Club - many thanks to Cat and Isla for such a warm welcome!

Can I interest you in my new book? You have my others... Lovely visit to Waterstones in Newcastle to drop off a proof copy of The Hunters Club. Thanks to all the staff for being ultra friendly 😘

Had a lovely time in Alnwick on Monday visiting @forumbookscorbridge's sister shop, The Accidental Bookshop - such a lovely shop with a great backstory. (You'll have to visit and ask...)
And while I was there, it would have been rude not to offer Helen a proof copy of The Hunters Club, wouldn't it?

Exciting news! The Hunters Club has been chosen by Waterstones as one of their summer offers! You can now get 25% off the cover price if you preorder before the end of July.

I'd be really grateful for any pre-orders - they make all the difference to authors!

At a recent event with my Crime Cymru pal and fellow historical crime author @chrislloydauthor.bsky.social we were asked whether it's ok to get in touch with a writer to tell them you've enjoyed their book or whether it's a pain because then you have to reply.
Easy answer PLEASE BE IN TOUCH!!

Glorious time chairing an event with @fflurdafydd.bsky.social and Caryl Lewis last night at Bookish bookshop in Crickhowell. The House of Water and Bitter Honey are two of the most beautiful, emotionally charged and page-turning books you're likely to read this year.

Just spent the bank holiday reading this (when I should have been writing, but hey, everybody needs a day off now and then) and it is BRILLIANT! If you don't know @vaseemkhanuk.bsky.social's work, then you have a treat in store - not just this but all the Malabar House books AND Inspector Chopra!

I had such a great time at Gwyl CRIME CYMRU Festival over the weekend appearing at the Noir at the Bar event on Friday night and with @fflurdafydd.bsky.social on Sunday. (There was also another event but no photos were taken!)

Thanks to the festival organisers for an absolutely wonderful weekend.

Do you know that Meta has stolen literally millions of books to train its generative AI programme? This multi-billion dollar company has disregarded all the rules of international copyright and simply 'scraped' our books up for its own profit. I'm standing with the SoA today: Meta #DoTheWriteThing.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of recording an interview with @ambroseparry for this year's Gwyl Crime Cymru Festival
- coming up at the end of the month in Aberystwyth. You can book tickets for all events, including the recorded sessions and the weekend's events at GwylCrimeCymruFestival.co.uk

Did you know that June is National Crime Reading Month? If you're a crime fiction fan, keep an eye out for events in your local libraries and bookshops - most events are free and you might meet a new favourite author!
Tthe NCRM events I'm involved are on my website here: alishawkins.co.uk/events/

This book (seen here with multiple post-it notes protruding!) is one of my sources for the next Oxford Mystery - The Hunters Club - which will be out later this year. WT - William - Stead, editor of The Pall Mall Gazette changed the nature of newspaper journalism and I've got Non writing for him...

As soon as I'd dropped this bag, Izzy was in there! It didn't hold her interest for long though. She was out in 30 seconds - probably in search of a more satisfactory receptacle. Like a box...

You can now catch me on AMI (Accessible Media Inc) pocast My Life in Books with blind author and intereviewer Red Szell. The podcast discusses audiobooks, specifically to help VI readers find good reads.
It was fab to hear that I'd nailed the physical and emotional aspects of losing your sight!

Had a fabulous time on Saturday seeing the Abba concert which was my birthday present last year from my family - the whole experience (bar a technical delay at one point) was amazing. I hadn't realised until we got there that the entire arena was purpose-built for these concerts!

Great to hear @susiedent on Michael Rosen's Radio 4 show this week. I was sad when her podcast with Gyles Brandreth, Something Rhymes with Purple, came to an end, but lately she's popped up on Radio 4's new comedy show, Unspeakable, with @wangpix which is both funny and feeds my etymology nerdiness!

The first in my Oxford Mysteries series featuring fearless Welsh feminist Non Vaughan & her partner in crime, closeted gay don (don't judge him, it's the 1880s) Basil Rice, has won an Earphones award from AudioFile Magazine 😀
Very chuffed for the fabulous voice actors who play Non & Basil.
