Female, 30s, cripplingly anxious gamer in WA state, trying to live her best life in assisted living. Usually replies, rarely posts.
Correction: During a famine Louie and Marie sold royal silver raise charity funds, and ate lower quality bread.

Marie was a philantrophist- She built houses for the poor, founded institutions for blind, widowed, and disabled, and frequently visited the people.

That's why I'll ask 'What are the payment options?' before asking if I need to sacrifice other stuff. Often I'm surprised by the answer.

PS. I'm in assisted living. I'm on my own private 'net, but I did witness the mess that was replacing the facility's wifi a couple years ago.

Its a similar thing with government. People chafe at high taxes, while forgetting stuff like tax subsidies and tax relief programs exist. Systems usually form into a net positive if you just ask to use them.

It applies to most anything else.

It's usually pride that keeps them from asking. (-_-;)

I was speaking more metaphorically/in general.

As someone on SSDI, I've often found businesses offer, on their own initiative, special prices for people like me to easily keep things within our tight budgets. Amazon Prime, for example.

You just need to poke and/or *ask.*

Unless you're referring to homeless, and that's because its night impossible to find long term care without age restrictions. My place is one of the only ones in the entire state.

As someone in non-senior assisted living in SeaTac and has lived within an hour of Seattle her whole life...

WTF are you talking about in regards to the city?

Maybe I'm a naive idealist, but you have to be something of an ass to be treated with 'contempt' by others, disabled or not.

I'll take 'fast and reliable' over 'cheap' any day of the year.

'Cheap' should not be confused with 'affordable' though.

The Seattle metropolitan statistical area is the 15th largest in the US, just below Detrioit (14) and San Francisco (13), and above areas like St. Louis (23) and Pittsburgh (28), likely because its several cities clustered around Seattle and the east Puget Sound.

Its worth noting that WA state's blue districts have most of the population. The Seattle-Bellevue-Tacoma metropolitan area, including King, Piece and Snohomish counties, has over *half* WA state's population.

Not at all. Most of the time we prefer being left alone. We only get pissed about being ignored. Like when the announcers were riding Skula's -- during ALDS Game 5.

For the same reason we're surprised a certain president of the same age and far less healthy is still upright.

I'm in the very blue state of WA thankfully, but its hard not to feel like I'm at the center of a crumbling island.
October 8, 2025 at 12:39 AM
Well, it also comes with the caveat that, in theory and presuming you aren't disabled, you can at least flee somewhere. Apply for asylum, whatever.

As someone in assisted living, I'm considered a 'burden.' That complicates things.

This turned into another disability rights rant, sorry. Its not something that comes up much in these kinds of discussions. Food for thought, though- I DO have trans neighbors at my LTC facility, and they would be as screwed as me if the place shut down.
October 8, 2025 at 12:29 AM
Newson's disability track record is... acceptable, so if it comes to that I'll vote for him. 'If' being the key word. On the other hand, I can understand your reservations.
October 8, 2025 at 12:29 AM
Back during the COVID BLM protests and even now with immigration, I realized the fact I look white but am half-Hispanic would be a far bigger deal... if I wasn't disabled, which overrode basically everything else.

For me, its one of those 'bigger fish to fry' things. :\
October 8, 2025 at 12:29 AM
Of course. But naturally, they're going to be angry if, say, we get another Trump (god forbid) and end up with more chaos because the other candidate wasn't quote-unquote 'perfect.'

Trump's second term has forced that kind of thinking.

Trans issues are another kettle of fish when you're disabled and worried about your assisted living facility in the face of cuts (recently confirmed safe for now, thank goodness).

I hate to say it, but many progressives would happily throw LGBTQ+ under the bus in exchange for say, universal healthcare.

We'd rather not make the choice, but there's the increasing sentiment that 'rights' are 'wedge issues'- The far left looks at social programs overseas and wonders...
October 8, 2025 at 12:01 AM
OR trans people aren't screwed over BUT you still lose your benefits.

Currently, there doesn't seem to be an option to have it both ways.

This 'us vs. them' stuff goes back decades sadly- Welfare programs only became more popular after the poor became 'whiter.'
October 8, 2025 at 12:01 AM
Its a screwed up situation. I'll be blunt: If the choice is between keeping my healthcare and benefits as someone permanently disabled BUT trans people will be screwed over, OR losing said benefits BUT trans people are STILL screwed over...

The Space Force maintains and defends stuff like our GPS and various other satellite-based systems. They'd been in development as a concept for decades. Trump just piggybacked off others work... as usual.

There's a term for those that have endured 'beloved family members' despite the swirling poison:

Abuse victim. Emotional abuse... verbal abuse... You slowly lose yourself dealing with it, and you either pursue the lost cause, or think of yourself for once.
September 14, 2025 at 4:43 PM
Often its less hate, and more realizing 'because family' is b###. I love my family dearly, but I kept them at arm's length for years after moving, after enduring way too much because of them.

It took slow steps for the relation to repair. Especially on their end.

Everyone complains about the Act 1 boss and SPOILER:

Seriously.

They never figure out there are actually *two* Act 1 bosses. There's a back way in with a different boss and an easier runback. Its a choice between storming the front door, or finding the back gate.
