I am always struck by the belief that any human’s rights can be determined by whether other people agree they should have them or not — especially in a nation that believes its exceptionalism derived from its codifying of innate rights.

I find broken boats to be beautiful and haunting. They always make me imagine where they've travelled and the people who once used them.
