Commiseration and Celebration for my National Board Certification cohort at my school. We all had at least some good news to celebrate, and determination to persevere in the year ahead.

Participation in my library winter reading challenge was low last year. This year, I’m trying to make it super accessible and more student driven. Students pick between 1 to 13 activities to complete. If they complete even one, I consider that a success.

Library book club win: Ss had such fun w/ my “White Elephant” activity. Books were wrapped, w/ only a blurb to guide their choices. A student chose one, unwraps to reveal, & picks the next person to choose. Books can be “stolen” once unwrapped up to 3x. Everyone was happy at the end. #EduSky

Optimist: The cup is half full.

Pessimist: The cup is half empty.

School librarian: This cup is perfect for dynamic shelving with several front-facing books!
Optimist: The cup is half full

Pessimist: The cup is half empty

Writer: …did I have a plan for this cup? Was it supposed to link to some other part of the plot? Crap. I really don’t want to go through and take every mention of the cup out. Maybe I can kill someone with it.
Optimist: The cup is half full

Pessimist: The cup is half empty

Agent: The cup isn’t a good fit for my list

School librarians and educators (and everyone else): this is such a clarion call to action as well as offering some peace amidst the emotional tumult we face. Highly recommended to sit and reflect with this piece. www.theguardian.com/world/2024/n...

My library makers are fascinated with this character right now. Who is it? What’s it from? I know they told me, but my exhausted teacher brain couldn’t hold on to it. But it’s okay if IDK. Just keep supporting their builds w/ enthusiasm. ✅ (& asking them if I can post pics delights them)
