S.323 is dead!!!!!!!!! Good work y’all. Organizing and activism and showing up can make all the difference!

Voted early in our muni run-off! Columbia, early vote continues today/tomorrow at 2020 Hampton, and Election Day is Tues, 11/18 at precincts! (Confirm at SCvotes.gov) Voted for Sam Johnson & Julie Lumpkin who I believe will be more compassionate toward ALL Cola folk, including our unhoused citizens.

Hey, NY Times, The New Yorker has entered the chat.

Well, at least it’s not another ad about my posture.

More photos - with Bo in the office, of the entrance to the offices/East Reception, and each of us at the entrance to the East Wing in 2015 for a Christmas party.

East Wing photo dump, 2012-2016. I’m sure I’ll have more. Sorry, very much in my feelings right now. Every location in these photos has either been demolished this week or will be in the next few days.

On the one hand, I’m not surprised because he already demolished the reception and hallway adjacent to the Visitors Office and part of the FLOTUS suite. On the other, I am…honestly bereft. Great chance tonight will be just crying over photos and memories and loss of place.

These 3 @belladonnacomedy.bsky.social pieces all originated in a @lukevburns.bsky.social workshop 🥳
The most recent of which, I had the honor of performing live at The Belladonna Comedy’s inaugural variety show in Chicago! Link to that one here:

East Reception, the East Wing of the White House, 2012. A toast after my husband proposed to me in the Residence. From the photos circulating of the demolish, it appears likely this space no longer exists. It’s a gut punch.

July 2022 - coincidentally also 7 months pregnant and at the Statehouse shouting against SC GOP BS. Sadly we lost that fight and now have the 6 week ban, but this time I have more hope. S.323 is the most barbaric abortion bill our state—and for that matter, our country—has seen. NO MORE BANS!
October 1, 2025 at 3:51 PM
Incredible turnout at the Statehouse! Only saw about 10 anti-choice protesters in this big loud crowd. Always a comfort to see these kinds of turnouts—and this is just the people who could come out on a Wednesday morning.
October 1, 2025 at 3:37 PM
Something oddly comforting about being among hundreds, if not thousands, of pro-choice protesters gathered at the SC Statehouse, even under the circumstances. Great conversations volunteering at the @psabortionfund.bsky.social table! NO to S.323!
October 1, 2025 at 3:10 PM
To the Statehouse! All best to everyone testifying against this terrible bill.
October 1, 2025 at 10:37 AM
SC friends! Tomorrow at 9:30 AM, the opportunity to testify and attend the hearing on the total abortion ban bill, S. 323. Gressette 105 at the Statehouse. WREN suggests an 8-8:30 arrival for non-testifying, 8:30 for testifying. Planned Parenthood hosting a rally outside at 9.

Happy birthday, Hurricane Hugo! (Who, destruction notwithstanding, I must thank for my own existence, as I was born 39 weeks later 😄)

Do you remember the guy in Charleston who used to wheel a cross around town? Cracked me upppp to see another wheeled cross pop up after that guy.

I found him! The Charleston cross-on-wheels guy! I took this photo in 2012 😆

My cat, Crawlspace, with her cherished baby that she carries everywhere around the house with her.
(It’s a Christmas ornament—a wooly dog with a scarf)

Washington Square Park always feels like coming home. Visited my old school where I got the degree I no longer use and stayed in the hotel where I interviewed for the job I no longer have.

My cat carries around a Christmas ornament, and when she brings it into a new room, she always announces it with a special trill she reserves only for the occasion. I find it so delightful 🥹. Here’s Crawlspace with her baby!

My latest contribution to Reductress! Stay safe out there this weekend, East Coasters!

Here is her mama, Storm Drain, who retreated from the crawlspace to a storm drain across the street until she decided to join the party on Election Night when she knew we were emotionally fragile and amenable to another cat on top of all the other cats.

HA! Smokey Toaster. I’ve got to hear that story.

Au contraire! Here is Crawlspace, found about one year ago in my crawlspace!

After a fun but hectic summer, looking forward to getting back into a good writing routine. I’ve signed up for a Wed. workshop with @lukevburns.bsky.social to jumpstart things. Wanna join? Sign up thru his Tumblr. Always fun and I’ve had at least one piece published from every class I’ve taken.

I know there are more serious things going on than this ballroom, but the prospective demolition of the East Wing really hurts. It’s one of the first places I worked. After getting engaged in the Residence, my colleagues celebrated us there. It felt permanent. I always imagined we’d return someday.
