Don't fucking @ me about "some of them are criminals". Some of any section of society are, and it's more likely to be ppl who use that as a comeback.

Honestly, so much far right rhetoric is "we need to stop being nice to everyone in case we're accidentally nice to someone who doesn't deserve it"

Is it really that wild and Society-destroying to believe that we should be grateful people see us as a place of refuge and want to seek safety here, and that we should welcome them and help them become part of our community?

I'd rather spend time with an asylum seeker than a Reform voter. Statistically I'd be way safer, too

Honestly the only good thing about the age check law is that less people can bother you 😄

I don't have a pet, it's just one of life's mysteries

must be going around at the moment

I know we've had a little fun with it, but for anyone who gets caught out by it (and it can be *anyone*, never consider yourself 100% immune) that could be life-destroying if their bank account is emptied.

Anything you can do to keep yourself & others educated on how to spot scams will help

Don't click anything in emails or DMs, even if they look like they're legit (I'm a professional idiot, so it's okay for me). Always go into your regular app or web page - if there's really an issue with the account, it'll show up there. Also be wary of entering your card details for 'verification'
November 13, 2025 at 12:28 PM
That, sadly, is the end of the journey as I never got an answer from the chat and the payment page just went in a loop. So I shall conclude by reminding you to be vigilant, especially when it comes to receiving emails and DMs about any of your social media accounts.

Oh no, it didn't go through because... what? This is not fantastic English but it does give us a clue as to why, when it mentions 10000lkr - Sri Lankan rupees. At this point, the chat also asks what currency it's in, so we'll answer them
November 13, 2025 at 12:28 PM
Yep, you also need to tell them how much they can scam you for! Let's say my fake card has $500
November 13, 2025 at 12:28 PM
I put in a bunch of random numbers and whaddya know? It worked... but my bank needs additional information. And this is where it gets funnier
November 13, 2025 at 12:28 PM
And here's the scam part - it wants your credit card details! Using credit cards for genuine age verification processes is quite common, and really shouldn't be for this exact reason - it's easy to spoof.

Now let's put some card details in...

So we head to this website. Looks fairly official, but take a look at the URL: definitely not a bluesky webpage. Note also that this too does not give any indication of which account it refers to. There's also a chat box, which we'll come back to.
November 13, 2025 at 12:28 PM
It's got all the hallmarks of a scam:
✅Doesn't identify you by name
✅Encourages you to act quickly to avoid a huge consequence
✅Random shortened link

Bluesky obviously would never DM you this information, it would come to your email. But I'm going to click the link so you don't have to...

They're coming for me!

Also if you don't speak French, the explanation: the ai heard 'queer' as 'cuir', which is pronounced very similarly and means 'leather'
