Understanding why your sports team struggles through material causes (ownership, cap, development, etc) is easier and more adult than moralizing the team. Hinging your identity on wins is childish. You're giving up agency to be consumed by sports instead of understanding sports.

When you're trained to throw tantrums like this over sports teams you can't control, you learn a script of emotional outrage without action. So when real material harm hits, rent, wages, rights, you react the same way: loud, upset, and ultimately pacified. That’s called social conditioning.

The reason I keep harping on this is that this is a very unhealthy way to process sports. You should care about things that have material effect on your life, like your wage, your quality of life, climate change, etc. Care about sports, but acting like you're a victim is silly.

Both have an insufferable Toronto sports self-victimization complex. Both act as if they have no choice but to suffer through their team, and they're also both completely out of touch; and their fandom makes them totally blind to the material reality of the sport they're watching.

Any self-respecting person would simply stop cheering for this team. Like, no one forced you to cheer for a team that sucks this bad, but it's really just a grift for him.

Leafs' self-victimization complex.

Christopher Columbus was not the first European to reach the Americas. That's absurdly false. The Norse reached the Americas 500 years earlier. Amerigo Vespucci discovered the continent. None of them “discovered” anything. Millions of Indigenous people were already here.
