you're a musician so notwithstanding that i disagree, your perspective may be more valid than mine so i'll let you have the last word.

I have a particular hatred for the "I will see your pessimism and raise it by 5-10%" genre. "It's happening already," "Next year? More like next week," "It's already too late," "...and no one will listen." It's just...ugh. Is one-downmanship a thing?

they released the first two seasons on dvd (which i bought), and were getting ready to release the third but ultimately mothballed it due to, i believe, issues with clearing all the music. that is probably the reason it's so hard to legitimately stream!

yeah, watching sheffield at the plate was just viscerally TERRIFYING. if he caught hold of one, you felt it in the pit of your stomach.

you just didn't want to come within 50 feet of his kitchen. he didn't let you get away with mistake pitches, he gave you cold sweats.

yeah, the hugeness of his arm papered over his otherwise subpar glove. but like… he hit .330 with 35 homers and 100 RBIs a year, for a decade. there are better numbers but the baseball card stats really do tell you what you need to know! he could hit a three-run homer on a pitch around his cap brim!

vlad got old quicker than i could have wished, and i think that may have to do with montreal's turf (as the hawk could attest) but, also, arte moreno's angels do not do a good job of protecting their marquee players' health, as c.j. wilson, josh hamilton, anthony rendon, and mike trout could attest

The Boll Weevil Monument and Cranberry World
The Shuffleboard Hall Of Fame, Poodle Dog Rock
And the Mecca of Albino Squirrels..."

saying that either one of them is overrated is basically confessing that you don't care about things for their own sake, you only care about lessening what you perceive as an excess of joy in others.

the other thing is – both ichiro and vlad were first-ballot inner-circle "watching them play is an indescribable joy" players. seeing ichiro beat out an infield hit at the age of 40 is... like... pretty close to the beating heart of what makes baseball fun.
