I got it on sale for like 30% off, so for me it has been. It really depends on what you want out of your coffee routine.

Part of the appeal is that they're very reliable and will last for years. It's easy to clean, easy to repair/replace any part, easy to use, and makes great coffee.

People are seeing that latter stage, and are pessimistic about the trend continuing towards full corporate dystopia.

Mix that with actually rising costs of housing, healthcare, childcare, education, and an unsteady job market, the feeling that things are maybe getting worse is not just hysteria.

The term is misused a lot, but enshittification isn't that "everything sucks now" - it's how specific platforms/products are made worse as a natural result of shareholder capitalism.

A refrigerator gets more efficient, maybe cheaper, but then Samsung puts fucking ads in your kitchen.

That response works better if it's paired with a belief that copyright dies with the creator. Profit made from posthumous work feels way more gross than the publishing act itself (in most cases).
