Honestly have no idea how this works.
*Bonus* JOHN CARPENTER'S GHOSTS OF MARS - Yeah, I'm going to be frank here. This is pretty bad. Some of the effects are appalling - as is most of the dialogue - and the scene transitions are only a step up from Powerpoint. Surely this is Carpenter's nadir.

A quick breakdown of what I had screening in the Isolation Cinema over the last week.

5 long years with this guy... 🎉🦉🇪🇸

Halloween week! Here is what I chose for my spooky viewing (as well as a repeat screening of both The Wicker Man and The Fog). Coincidentally, all of these were to do with being kept in horrific houses. I didn't plan that. It was the demons.

Just look at our disturbingly talented two-hander cast of our Special Episode! 🤩

Beth brought a sickly sweet tone to Gwen we hadn't anticipated and Lucy brought a dry Northern lilt to Ashley that we hadn't considered. And they both made us laugh constantly. Always a treat working with them! (1/3)

A week of very dark comedies in the Isolation Cinema with some thrills, one or two chills, and plenty of spills!

Bargain of the Century!!! 😱🤩

*Bonus* Re-watched CREEPSHOW having just finished the whole TV series. The film is a brilliantly weird, eerie anthology! I had totally forgotten about the story that has Ted Danson and a surprisngly really nasty Leslie Nielsen, which is amazing! I had not forgotten, however, the cockroach story... 😨

The horrors continue as October rolls on - this was last weekend's trio of demons, domination and DIY.

I didn't know Drew Struzan had designed SO MANY major film posters - From Blade Runner to The Muppets. This is where the word 'Iconic' is appropriately used. Phenomenal! R.I.P.

October began with a pairing of two Tarantino stories about two lovers enrapt in a world of crime. One is great and one is categorically not. And Tarantino knows which is which.

Well this completely shat me up! If you like your horror LIVE then I do recommend!

I was sceptical about THE NAKED GUN but it is hysterical! Faithful to the originals but it's not a carbon copy of them. The gag rate is rapid-fire and Liam Neeson is brilliant as Frank Drebin.

"You served 20 years for mans laughter. Must have been quite the joke...'
'You mean manslaughter?'

*Bonus* FATAL INSTINCT - I'd never even heard of this one. Carl Reiner did a spoof of 80s/90s erotic thrillers. The result - mixed. It's no 'Naked Gun' but there are some laugh-out-loud moments of physical comedy and both Armand Assante and Sean Young play it wonderfully deadpan. Sherilyn Fenn too!

The last four films of September's Isolation Cinema. I'm hard pushed for a link here. I could say the theme of control or being controlled but that's quite a stretch even for me.
October 1, 2025 at 5:41 PM
*Bonus* - I re-watched SIN CITY which was a repeat viewing for me as a teenager. It's still a spectacularly made adaptation and impressively unique!

Isolation Cinema from end of August through to late September. The word here is - Intense.

I especially adore his performances in The Sting, Three Days of the Condor, All The President's Men, and Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid. I have still yet to see Sneakers and Ordinary People (if I can find either) but they have been on my watch list for a number of years.

I'm very sad about Robert Redford. A cinematic legend and an absolutely remarkable champion of independent filmmaking. Without him there would be no Sundance Festival. We've lost one of the greats. R.I.P. 😭

GOOD NIGHT, OSCAR is outstanding! Incredibly funny, moving and powerful. There are so many acerbic one-liners packed into it. Sean Hayes is just astonishing - it's no wonder he won the Tony for his performance. One of the best plays I've seen in years!

I am rather fucking enjoying this muthafucking cunting series, you bunch of fucking cocksuckers.
August 30, 2025 at 5:00 PM
I'm not so sure about this one. Apparently it doesn't even touch upon 'The Good Life' or 'Yes Minister' 🙄.

Isolation Cinema - the quartet of viewings over the last two weeks of August, and everyone's battling with someone or something.
August 28, 2025 at 7:45 PM
Last week I watched two documentary films.

SHARK WHISPERER - Ocean Ramsay has good intentions but I think she's going about it in the wrong way. (Netflix)

BRATS - Interesting look at the whole Brat Pack movement but you get the sense Andrew McCarthy is the only one who hasn't moved on. (Disney+)
